Retail souce for Edelbrock 1904?

I am looking for a retailer that has an Edelbrock 1904 carb in stock. Does anyone know of one?

Jegs has a reconditioned 1904, but I really want a new one. I have a rebuilt quadrajet on my truck now, and it has been a piece of junk. For this reason, I'm hesitant to buy a rebuilt one. Does anyone have any experience with reconditioned 1904s? Are they reconditioned by Edelbrock?

They did. That's why I can't find one.

I figure there have to be a few left out there...

No luck so far. Someone on another board suggested a Jet rebuilt quadrajet. Does anyone have an experience with them?

Re: Retail souce for Edelbrock 1904?

I had a Holley rebuilt Quadrajet on my 83 and never had an issue with it. Very clean and well conditioned carb. They did the little tricks like removing that stupid little step thing that sometimes hangs up the secondary valves and putting epoxy over the spots that tend to leak gas over time.

I ran the truck for about 10,000 miles with that and sold it to a buddy who is still putting miles on the truck.

Re: Retail souce for Edelbrock 1904?

I found someone here in Houston that knows the old Qjets well - he has tried everything and with the help of a dyno has perfected the performance of just about any application. How I found him - asked at the local performance speed shop. He will tell you to not ditch the original carb. I still can't believe how much his carb rebuild/tune woke up the 350 in the old Blazer. Let me know if you want more info on this fellow.

I want to get rid of the old carb regardless because it has the wierd accelerator pump with the elecrical connector. I do want to stay with a quadrajet, though.

What does he charge to rebuid a quadrajet?

He will want to refinish all surfaces, inside and out - replating or whatever, rebush the shafts, seal the plugs and tune to your needs all for $300-$400.
