factory chrome wheels

Well I know this gets talked about a lot but the search thing isn't working.

Anyone have some good pictures of the 73-87 chrome rally wheels, you know, the ones with the black centercap label with the bowtie? I was telling a friend of mine about them, at first he didn't believe me, then I reminded him I'm an encyclopedia of obscure knowledge 'bout trucks like mine and he believed me, but I just wanted to show him because I think they are just so cool.

I'd love a set of them but I don't want this to turn in to a "For Sale" post, I just want some pictures so I can show my friend.

Thanks in advance,
Cliff

Re: factory chrome wheels

I'm not familiar with them. I have only seen silver rally wheels, plain steelies, white wagon wheels, and the aluminum ones with the holes.

Re: factory chrome wheels

Are you referring to the 454SS type wheels that came on the 92-96 trucks? That's what it sounds like to me.

Re: factory chrome wheels

mine has a set. 15" with deep dish trim rings. there was a black sticker with a blue bowtie in the center of the caps until i poked a hole through the sticke for spinners. they came on the 73-87 series and are very common. check out the wheels threads, and you should see some.

AFAIK, all rally wheels were painted silver (argent) and had stainless trim rings and some of the center caps were in fact chrome. . .

Re: factory chrome wheels

There was never a Chrome wheel offered from GM for the 1/2T pickups.

There was an aluminum wheel though starting in 1979 that was offered on the Street coupe for that year and all models after that.

A white spoke wheel was availible from 1973-up.

Rally wheels were offered starting in 1979. If they were original they were Argent silver. Any other color was painted after the fact.

Since we are going through this . Captcoas is wrong about rally wheels in 79 and you need to clarify that the chrome wheel wasnt offered in 73-87 tricks . It was offered on 1/2 ton trucks in the newer body style . I have seen factory Rally wheels on 77's . the 8 inch rally might have came out in 79 but the rally was available in 77 for sure . Frank

Re: factory chrome wheels

Nope those are aluminum! Stock they are not shinny but more of a matte finnish, to make them shinny you need to put buff them and apply somthing i belive. Here is mine: ( ohh yeah ignore the balancing weights... boy was that a pain in the butt to clean off )
