What did you get done this weekend?
Finally I get to start one of these threads...Pictures speak for themselves, but here are some words:
Girlfriend was out of town, worked on truck 12 hours straight on Sunday. got oil pressure and water temp gauges wired and plumbed. filled the tranny w/fluid. filled engine w/oil. re-mounted the C/K truck dipstick. sanded down the firewall where the brake booster is and painted it. re-mounted the master cylinder for brakes. rewired the trailer lights. modified the driver's side bumper support bracket to fit with the power steering setup. got the throttle cable setup (But not chopped and hooked up to the pedal). got the manifolds torqued down to spec (intake + exhaust). got the harness installed, all wired up, very easy but took a long time. NOTE: noticed skip shift solenoid sensor was deleted, hope this won't cause a problem? i wanted to disable it, but ... i'm a noob i'm really happy with the quality of work on the harness Wait4me did thus far, although some of the wiring (like power ACC and power ON) and the starter stuff seems a tad cheez but 100 times better than i would do!! got the battery box sanded and painted. got the front clip back on and somewhat adjusted, but not bolted down yet. dorked around with the low pressure PS line. gotta figure out how to bend it to make it fit under the inner fender. updated my gallery to include pictures of the driveshaft install and today's work - including my gauges setup on the pan and head. this is a weird sight for me...it's been almost 7 months since i saw it like this last. ![]() ![]()

I cleaned/stripped my inner fenders and 67 grill. I also gave the Z71 a bath, she was feeling neglected

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
I saw that, Bill. I was a little jealous. I'm not really ecstatic about the way all of my brackets and other crap looks. I really want to take time to polish it up. I swear, whatever GM does to pour aluminum parts, it leaves so much crap everywhere, lots of slag-looking stuff.
what dremel bit did you use to get the casting flashes off?

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
I drilled two holes in the crossmember for the bulkheads for the air line. And that's it truck-related. Lots of yard work and did some cleaning on my beater's interior (nasty), and detailed my S-10. Hopefully the next few weeks will lend themselves towards more truck work than anything, now that I've gotten a few spring cleaning chores out of the way.

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
I got my engine back in my truck (replaced harmonic balancer, timing set and a bunch of gaskets, and driver's side exhaust manifold). Got the electric fans mounted to my radiator. Got the cab and core support mounts swapped out. Finished modifying my wiring harness for headlight relays, electric fans, and internally regulated alternator. Finished modifying and mounting my serpentine brackets (not as clean as Bill's). Now (since my weekend lasts until Friday) I gotta get the wiring harness installed and install the Chevy front clip.

No truck work here! I did get the grass cut though (followed by the consumption of numerous cold ones!)

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
I put my hood back on from the whole front crossmember/new M/C and Booster swap I did last weekend, then bled the brakes (again) and changed the lower radiator hose that was dripping on me while I swapped the crossmember...
THEN, I took it for a test drive and the brakes are great...but the radiator decided that the stress from taking the old lower hose off was just too much to bear. Now I have a couple good radiator leaks above the lower hose tube. Two straight pinhole leaks about a half-inch above the tube but not from the tube itself...original radiator with some filler-neck issues anyway but I was hoping to get through the next month. So, I bought a new one online yesterday at radiatorbarn.com for 179 shipped (because I searched the board and found a good link), then I went and pulled a few parts off my parts trucks to sell to lessen the blow of the last three weeks' worth of parts buying. More stuff to sell soon after cleaning them up and painting this week. I haven't even come close to starting the intake/carb swap that I had planned to have done by now... It seems everything takes 3 times longer than I want it to and costs roughly twice as much as I think!

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
I started to strip the new-to-me bed side to replace my pushed in passenger side.
I have a question about rust repair on the bed: Is there a weld in patch for the floor bolt hole strip? The bed side I got is nice, but the strip is too rusty and the bolts spin. The floor was cut to remove the bed side, so I wanted to blast it, then weld a new angle strip with the square holes and add new bolts. |

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
I drove mine fishing about 500 miles over the weekend, I washed the windshield...
It is great to have them to where you can drive them... I got 18 plus mpg during the trip running 75 mph. It was fun, but I think I need single piece windows to cut down on the high speed noise. Dave

replaced the waterpump that has been leaking for several weeks. No other truck related work. Sat infront of the computer doing some freelance work the rest of the weekend - and it was 75 degrees outside

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
Started to work on my 67 that's been sitting for a year. Installed new wiring harnesses, power steering box and pump. aftermarket gauges and automatic shift linkage. Now I just need a shift lever and a couple power steering hoses and I can drive it again.

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
Finished up Tunnel in bed and got all the wood cut up, routered, stained & 90% installed, still have to figure a little detail out on how to access my battery that I also made a battery tray/bracket for and installed it right behind the differential (using a Braille Automotive Battery weighs 15lbs and isnt much bigger than dresser style motorcycle battery). I also made a bracket/mount for the electric fuel pump that will attatch the new fuel tank that will be located in the rear (ordered today, promised next week). Installed rear Roll pan from ClassicPerformance. Hopefully this week get started back on the front and get the front brake lines ran & hooked up, finishup any wiring, some minor mods to engine before putting the nose back on.

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
Finally finished painting my frame(I had to wait over winter to continue). My dad was cutting my floor out and we found more rust and bondo. Someone who previously own the truck(I dont even know how many previous owners this truck has had)had made the drivers side cab corner out of bondo. Finally got the right oil pan gasket. When I came home from school on thursday, there was a set of flow-tech headers and flowmaster 40's sitting on my bed. So my rolling chassis should be together soon.

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
well I have no pics and it was more then just this weekend but in the last week I have installed my engine(402) mounted tranny (TH400+Gearvendors) mounted tranny x member to find out header won't clear bottom of x member so customized it to make room for the Ceramic coated headman headers. I have come to the conclusion that I can go with a one piece drive shaft now since the front part of my original would only be about 10 inches. So need to get that made and need to order brake lines and a fuel tank. I have been telling the wife I need to mount the serpentine belt setup on the engine to see how it looks but since it is outside she doesn't want me to do that. Well as soon as I get some more parts I think I will make some more progress.

Re: What did you get done this weekend?
no pics to show but made a ton of progress on my 70 longbed. went from parked beater to nearly streetable in a matter of hours. got my tranny back up to speed. once i got that figured out, i started brakes. bled them out and adjusted them all around. took my truck for its first test drive on sat. it was a great thing. it hadnt moved since i bought it in january. now just got a few things left to do before it gets inspected and sees the road daily. all in all, a great weekend of work.
