Power Brake Conversion (Clarification)
I've read this thread in the FAQ section.

Farside847 has done a great job explaining this conversion however, I think he failed to account for how stupid I actually am..... He indicates that, "the old pushrod for manual brakes, its quite a bit longer than the power brake one". This would make me think that you'd need a new pushrod. I would assume this would come from the donor truck? I know DUH! but just looking to confirm. I'm looking at doing the conversion on a 1970 Chev C10 with a drum/drum setup right now. A few questions hopefully some of you guys who have done this can help me out with: Parts List 1) Does someone have an exact parts list that is required for this conversion? I'm thinking this would be all thats needed but if I'm missing something could you let me know please? Parts needed: Power Booster from 67-72 donor truck (DT) Shorter pushrod from 67-72 DT Brass fitttings, hose, clamps for vaccum line. Quick sidebar 2) Can you use the booster from a 73-87 truck? Would it be a direct bolt on? Would the shorter pushrod from a 73-87 work in the 67-72? Thank you.

Any takers? Going to the Bone Yard tomorrow see what what's available. I'd think it would be easier to loacte something off a 73-87...

Thanks for the link dwcsr. I think thats a little over my head, besides I can't really see the big advantage of hydro over vaccum. I don't want to have to fabricate anything just looking for a suitable, (only marginally difficult), "bolt in" solution.

You need to try to get the booster with the m/c (make sure there's a rod between them) and the brackets bolting the booster to the firewall (1/2 ton booster has different brackets than 3/4 ton). (If you can get a 3/4 ton or 1 ton setup it will give more boost.) You also need the rod that runs from the brake pedal to the booster (your old one won't work). Go get a new check valve for the booster where the vacuum line connects. Make sure you have a vacuum port on your intake or carb.
You're probably gonna want to replace the m/c with a rebuilt one.
