Dual Electric Fans---Going to the junkyard---What vehicles should I look at?

Going to the pull-a-part tomorrow and want to know what vehicles have you guys gotten your dual electric fans out of. I know(and have bookmarked) the Altima fan swap that's in the FAQ section, but the last time I went to Pull-a-part there were no Altimas. So I need a back up plan.

thanks

Hmmm, it seems like someone here suggested Ford Windstar or Camaros. Seems like someone else suggested a Lincoln of some flavor? I suggest taking a tape measure along and checking under a lot of hoods.
Good Luck!

Late model Ford Taurus (Merc Sable) with (3.8?) V6. Got mine for about $20 for the pair. Read quite a bit of positives on other forums about these and I believe they are 2-speed as well.

We'll see just how well they work on my Blown 383!!???

Check the fan from Crown Vic police interceptor as well. You probably know where to find one of those.

The Crown vic fans may be a little more high performance, since most stuff on cop rides is heavy duty, but not sure how they fit.

The Taurus fans side by side fill up the core width of my 4 core (factory style) radiator perfectly.

If the Vic fans fit as well, they would probably be the obvious choice.

Re: Dual Electric Fans---Going to the junkyard---What vehicles should I look at?

well, George I'm not a cop anymore so technically I guess that means I can go steal one from the back of the police dept. JUST KIDDING!!! I'm going back out to pull-a-part tomorrow or Friday and I'll look. Went out there today and didn't see any out of the Altima's or Stanza's. Somebody has already taken them.

What year range Taurus's and Sable's

What year range Crown Vic's and Merc's?

good info... how hard is it to make these fans work? is it just a mount up and run a wire so it runs when the truck runs? I was thinking I Was just going to get a kit... but this seems like a much cheeper alternative...

Can't recall what year exactly, but it's the last body style....I don't think they make the Taurus anymore..not sure.

I bench tested mine and there are two power wires that can be hooked up. One is a low speed and the other is high. Not 100% sure on how I will wire. I think Spal has a real nice controller that will let me use both high & low speed. You could just attach them to the radiator core, but I'm sure they will work better with a shroud, which should't be too hard to make.

I'll probably ditch the shroud with the dual fan setup. I'll look for one tomorrow at the junkyard, just don't know if they're are any newer style Taurus's there.

Re: Dual Electric Fans---Going to the junkyard---What vehicles should I look at?

I have a single fan set-up from a Volvo S90 ? ? ? I believe. Its HUGE, fits the radiator almost perfect, and pulls an BUTT LOAD of air through. I used a electronic thermostat from Advance Auto to turn it on and off through a relay. (Came as a complete kit with relay, harness, thermo-switch, etc)

I'm really happy with it. Draws a fair amount of current but WOW does it move some air ! !

Re: Dual Electric Fans---Going to the junkyard---What vehicles should I look at?

I used a single fan, dual speed, fan from a mid-80s Taurus/Sable for my LT1/T56 in my 240Z. I used a 4 cylinder Camaro plastic/aluminum radiator. I never had any temp problems. That fan is widely accepted by the conversion community as one of the best OEM junkyard fans to use!
I have 3 or 4 of them that I picked up at the last sale day at the self-serve JY. Let me know if you want to give it a try....

Just make sure it is from the 3.8l V6. It will be obvious....large fan, swept blades with 3 large gauge wires going to it. Brown, black and blue, IIRC.

I got mine off a Dodge Dynasty (look like the same fans as the Intrepid also). The width is the same as our radiator, not a bad fit at all.
