Need towing advice (quickly) - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I finally found the perfect truck. I've already payed for it, and have the bill of sale. Problem is finding a trailor to tow it. Do any of you guys know what will tow a 1/2 ton truck. Uhaul, every guy gives me a diferent answer. Will an auto transport work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard the U-haul trailers will work, but they won't rent them fo you if you tell them that you are hauling a truck.

Where is the truck? There are a few members in the Indy area, maybe one of them will help you.

You should be able to rent a car trailer at your nearest rental buisness. All the ones around here have them. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

I rented the Uhaul . I even made reservations on the web and put in 69 chevy truck for the vehicial being towed. no problems. it said it was a recomended towing setup. It was the kind where you drive it all the way onto the trailer. If fit ok but I bought extra tie straps because I was going 1400 miles.

I speak from experience about shipping my truck from Vancouver to Winnipeg. It took 2 months, I COULD HAVE PUSHED IT FASTER!!! The shipping company kept giving me bull$hit about it being to heavy. Anyways it's better if you do it yourself, that ways you know it will make it there in one piece. fine69 has a good idea about asking board members for help. CoryM, who I have never met went and looked at my truck and disconnected the 2nd/3rd linkage so it was drivable and finally shippable!!

Thanks for the replies. I went with the uhaul. The next hurdle is getting that heavy truck up on the trailor. Off hand does anybody know what the average weight of these trucks. It's a 1970 Chevy C10 Stepside, the wood in the back is rotted out, and it has an inline six in it already. I can't wait to start stripping it down.

3500-ish..
How far you towing it, and what is your tow rig...I'd just buy a tow bar, then you'll never have to worry bout gettin your stuff home again.

If you go get it take a buddy with you to help and have extra straps to tie with. I would get a come-a-long to pull it on the trailer then use it to tie the front down.

I work for Uhaul and reccomend using an auto trans to hual it. I used one to bring a buddies 79 1/2 ton to take parts off and it fit on the transport nicely. Dont use a tow dolly though, they arent wide enough for a truck
