Some progress pictures 70 K5

Went 4wheeling on Sunday and my fuel pump failed so didn't get any action pictures my brother in law had to tow me to town so I took some pictures at his house when we got back. Bad day for 4wheeling

Before

After

I bought this in Janurary for $500.00 and have been working hard to enjoy it this summer. As you can see I still have a lot to do but it's comming along nicely. Next disc front brakes and 3.73's

Re: Some progress pictures 70 K5

Whoa, had me scared when I saw the first pic, had no idea of what to say when I saw it.

Then I saw the rest... now I do! Great transformation!

Looks like a totally different blazer, your hard work has paid off.

LOL scared you that's great! Thanks I have been working on this missing out on camping dirt bike ridding and fishing all summer so now that it's this far maybe I can still enjoy it before there is snow on the ground. I am really mad that the fuel pump went out because it's brand new Holley TBI pump and it has a filter before and after it. It was a pain in the butt getting it back to town today.

overall I am happy with the TBI, the thing I like best is that it don't flood out on steep hills and no gas sloshing around in a carb off road. I think that I need a larger throttle body though I think that the stock TB and intake are a bottle neck becasue power is decent but not anything to brag about. .060 bored 350 with 285-300HP marine cylinder heads comp cam and headders and a custom chip it feels like a peak of 220ish HP and 285-300ish peak torque to me. I built the engine for 250-270 HP and 350+ torque but it don't run that hard. Also my transmission is a slush box not very responsive and with 3.07 gears and 33" tires excelleration is lame to me. When it winds out it pulls nicely so I know that there is potential I just need more low end power to get the truck moving. That is why I say next modifications are 3.73 gears, the only reason I am not going with 4.10's is becasue I have a front axle D44 with disc brakes and 3.73s readdy to go and a 12bolt with 3.73's just ready to put in.

Thanks for the complements guys, It totally looks like a different truck and I get a lot of complements while I am driving it.

Re: Some progress pictures 70 K5

May not seem like much but 3:73's are a much friendlier all around gear than 4:11's for a driver.

Wish you were closer, I'm sorta looking for some 3:08's.

Re: Some progress pictures 70 K5

3.07's are terrible up here in this nose bleed altitude and mountains, but a great sea level gear. I just drove my GMC that has been sitting while I have been driving the Blazer and gezz what a difference 4 speed, and 4.10's and a 300 HP 350 it feels like a big block compared to my K5 lol.

Re: Some progress pictures 70 K5

Thanks Yukon, I am just mad that it's already broken down. The fuel pump is still on warrantee so I can get a free replacement but the down time sucks and now I am paranoid that a replacement will not last. I cannot stand to be worried about something like that.

Re: Some progress pictures 70 K5

1) Usually the throttle cable goes to the top stud. The long black one was for cruise on the R/V series.

2) Assuming a frame mounted tank....you can use a 31 gallon 87-91 tank. Get with mosesburb here or on ck5. He used the tank that used to be in my 79 K5 years back when i made the tb swap. I don't generally recommend holley as it is easier to find a replacement part if it was a factory item....that why i use a tb tank and factory pump set up....plus its in the fuel vs. having to pull the fuel from the tank.

3) howell or painless harness? Guessing at a howell as painless doesn't wire loom their stuff. Running a vss (2 pulse) ? If not leave the black wire for the park-neutral connected. If the cam is way off in lift and duration you'll have issues...if the block is from the old days and you are running a non tb cam you will have to advance the timing into the 12-14 range to make her happy.

4) Pull the injector pod off (2 lines and 3 torx head screws 3 fittings) put the staked nut in a vise and turn her 3 turns counter clock wise to raise the psi up a bit...

This ought to wake her up a bit if i am guessing right....

Re: Some progress pictures 70 K5

thanks 1975k5chalet, my throttle is a linkage type and it worked out best using the cruse mounting spot.

It's a painless harness I put the loom on it. Running a VSS, and a park neutral kit from painless for a park netural signal to the ECM. CompCam cpu friendly and a custom chip from TBIchips.com. I'll try bumping my FP up to see if that'll help. I put a 4.10 in the rear this morning and that helped a lot.
