Time to be stupid...
I have a 68 C-20 lwb. Is my truck a "3/4 ton" or a "full ton?"
I had assumed that it was a 3/4 ton, but a recent post has me confused. Thanks.. and please don't make fun of me.. :P

We don't think you're stupid and nobody will make fun. There was a time when each of us knew absolutely nothing about cars or trucks. We all had to learn by asking and doing. Your truck is a 3/4 ton. The 1 ton carried a C-30 designation.

Re: Time to be stupid...
yep 3/4 ton, but those numbers are never really true on what the truck will haul, my dad use to help a local farmer who would haul 10 ton of fertilizer on a 2 ton grain truck, and I have hauled a 1.5 ton load of scrap to town on a dodge dakota better truck we have on the farm, but I would say that dakota was overloaded, it was squating pretty good and the front wheels were barely on the ground, it was all good though, never had to get her above 30 MPH on the way there, it was only a few miles.

Re: Time to be stupid...
That's the great thing about american built. There is always head room, if it is japanese and if it says 1 ton they pretty much mean 1 ton

The ratings are way conservative.

Re: Time to be stupid...
That`s funny.Back in the`80s when Yokytos came out with a 1 ton label on the tailgate(they`ll put anything on a tailgate),I had a`78 Dooley 454 CamperSpecial and I was inspired to get a license plate that said WON TON.I also had lettered on "my" tailgate:No Turbo,No Injection...Just One Big Stinkin` Quadrajet.
The tonnage rating was started as far back as when most vehicles had wooden spoke wheels,low-double digit horsepower, chain drive, mechanical brakes, and self-propelled cargo hauling was a thing of wonder. It just became a standard to the three ratings that light trucks have been available in.
