Look what I found & Carter AFB Help - PICS!!
Had the BOYs out front this weekend, getting the 79K20 donor vehicle ready for my sons shop class.
I was given this truck back in May and never really looked in it, engine was covered with some sludge. Here's what I found under the hood: * Carter AFB - Competition Series Carb # 9F35SA 2633 * Edelbrock Classic Valve Covers * Edelbrock old school intake manifold - No cast name of model. Just say's Edelbrock. I can't wait to see whats inside!! Haven't run numbers off engine or heads yet - kinda the kids' project. I thought it was a simple 350 but, ya dont throw $150 V/C's on a stocker landscape truck - usually. Next, a question. Anyone have a link where I can find out more about this Carter AFB carb?? Like model & CFM etc. Would appreciate any help. Ill continue the saga soon. - Dave

to ID that carb, look for a number stamped on the front of the throttle body, drivers side.. also there should have been a tag on top of the airhorn, attached to one of the screws.... it may or may not be there.. its probably a 625 cfm model, though........... good luck

I like those valve covers. Worth every penny you didn't pay for it.

The carb is most likely a 625 cfm, had one just like it, same exact carb as the Edelbrocks to so thier jets and rods interchange for tuning. The intake looks like a older Performer style, decent but not that great compared to the newer RPM. I put the nice Brodix aluminum valve covers on my beat up old 72 plus a bunch of other e bay performance parts. I am in the process of doing the same thing with my 73 long bed.

Re: Look what I found & Carter AFB Help - PICS!!
Believe it or not---The Carter AFB is the VERY SAME thing that Edelbrock sell sunder the Performer Carb line as a number 1406. Both units are made by a company called Magnetti-Marelli and have the same parts inside them. The Edelbrock parts usually sell for less and are more plentiful. I have had a couple of the Carters and tuned them with the needles and jets from the Edelbrock suppliers.
The carb is actually a 625 CFM unit and is pretty reliable, i finally upgraded to an Edelbrock Thunder AVS which is a 650 CFM unit. Last edited by piecesparts; 10-17-2006 at 08:25 AM. |

Re: Look what I found & Carter AFB Help - PICS!!
Yea, it looks alot like my Edelbrock 1406, with some small diffs. Looking around the net I found that the number on mine was mis stamped an just LOOKs like 9"F"35SA. Most likely a 9635SA model. Anyone have any info or will my 1406 manual pretty much cover it?

The Edelbrock 1406 paperwork will do everything that you need.
