Re: valve adjust
Pre-load the lifter 1/2 turn after you have all of the lash out with the valve closed.

Also isn't this method just hydraulic lifters? If he has solid lifters his vavles will be open all the time. Is there a procedure for adjusting vavles on a chevy engine like you do on a Cat diesel where you do it in two turns of the crank shaft.

Re: valve adjust
the easiest way to set valves it to remove the valve covers and install oil deflector clips on the rockers....then (with the engine running) start from one end or the other and back the nut off slowly untill the lifter starts tapping and then tighten it back down slowly untill it just barely stops ticking...then give it another 1/4 turn and move on to the next rocker.....this should be the ONLY way you should set the lifters especially if they are used hydrolic lifters as a hydrolic lifter "pumps up" with oil....you can set solid lifters with the engine off as they don't "pump up"

Re: valve adjust
Just go by the book! 1/2 turn after no clearance.

Re: valve adjust
Thanks to all members who replied, obviously am lacking some basic knowledge of my engine, which powers a 30ft
boat. Prehaps my next move is to determine whether lifters are hyd. or solid. Regards 292 |
