Bags?

Alright. I decided to skip the whole static drop step and move on to bags. I did static drop on my S10 and it still isn't low enough, but its my daily so.. Why not do it on my 70?

The front I was looking at ***************** and am probably going to get their bracket (cut the bottom down to about an inch) and then slam speciality RE7 bags. Also get a 2.5" drop spindle, disc brakes, tierods, etc. I understand how to do the front pretty well. It is basically like an s10.

The back should be easy but I am not sure how to mount the bag. I am going to use the same RE7s in the back and probably mount it in the stock location. Do I need a bracket or anything? Also new shocks and relocation, super track bar, c notch, and a 2" block.

Does this sound like everything I would need besides compressor, tank, valves, wiring, switches, lines, and guages? Most of the bag components will be from sd.com.

In the rear you can mount them in place of the coils without brackets. You will need to drill holes in the top frame/clamshell to mount the bag, no biggie.

My upper bolts were a challenge. They were far enough apart that each bolt butted right up against the edge and they were tough to install and tighten. It would have been much easier if I could have had the tub off. If I had been installing them on pickup I would have pulled the bed. My bags were Slam Specialties RS72's which I think are equivalent to your RE7's.

OK. Good pics. On the bolts for the back and for the front what did you use? Also how low would the truck be after the bags are installed?

I used grade 8 bolts from the hardware store. I think they were 3/8", but can't remember for sure. That should be easy enough to figure out though.
Someone else will have to answer on the low question. I didn't ever drive mine with the bags, I sold it to LUV2XCLR8 before I finished it.

OO ok. Thanks for all the help. Now in your picture you didn't use any brackets on the rear, but in the link you sent me there are some brackets used on the rear. Any reason for that and where would I look to find some. Also who sells c notches, I have been looking but can't find any?

I got my notches from Classic Performance (CPP). I am using Slam Specialties RS6 bags with no brackets in the rear. I haven't installed them yet because I still need to notch the frame.

Does that notch (now that I found it on their site) come with bump stops? And has anybody installed it?

Yes, it comes with small bumpstops that are about 5/8" tall. I've got the CPP notch in my truck. It's a pretty easy install.

Hey 67Fleet, I was wondering how you like the viair 380 and what psi you usually run it at? Also 1/2" valves vs 3/8" which would be better for these trucks? Just wanted others opinion. Thanks for all the answers so far.

I love my 380's. I have 2 now. My pressure switch is set for 160 on, 200 psi off. I'm also running a toggle swith to override the pressure switch so I can make sure my compressors aren't running if I'm out of town, or like now where my truck is taken apart and I'm not driving it. As for valves, I've got 3/8" valves all the way. If I was to do it all over, the only thing I would change is I'd do 1/4" dumps up front. It airs out a little quick for my liking up front. Out back w/ 3/8" it is perfect but up front is a lot more weight so it comes down a lot faster. 1/4" would even out the front to back I think.

As for front cups, I got the standard cups from SD and took them to a machine shop and had them turned down on a lathe to about a 1/2". The taller your cups are, the taller your front end is gonna be. Some guys are just running plates and they weld them to the LCA. The 1/2" I have allows it to settle into the LCA and grab on to something without being welded in. I've had -0- problems with it this way.

MrShelley's pics don't show air bag brackets on the rear. You may be looking at the factory clam-shell style bracket on the frame for the top of the coil spring. That is the picture with the red writing on it showing the one factory hole and the three holes that he drilled.

Your Slam Specialties bags should have bump stops built in. You may still need to use bump stops to keep the rear from hitting the notch though, I assume that is why you were asking.

Your right on the brackets, I found another article on an ART install that used brackets. http://www.webrodder.com/article.php...&SID=60&CID=11 It looks easier and uses the stock holes.

As far as the bump stops goes yes I was wondering for the rear axle to notch.

That bracket is pretty neat, I have never seen those. It will add a little height though.

Yea I figured it would add some height, but I can probably cut some of it out. It would save a ton of time on the install though. I can't seem to find it though on ART's website.

If you have a welder, you could just buy this: http://www.*****************/BuildItY...th55ODTube.php and build your own kit. Then you can make it whatever size you want and it would still probably be pretty quick. Just weld what ever size you want and then weld the bolt in the middle where the hole is. presto.

Or...you could just go the easy way and buy the brackets from air ride and save yourself the time and the hassle. That is what I would probably do if I had the money.

I got some brackets like that with my kit, but I doubt I will run them. Since the setup I have is nearly identical to 67fleet's, I will mount them as is.

I did not trim my front cups, but I might after I get smaller tires since mine are very close the the well as is.

Hey 67Fleet what about fill in the front? Would it be better to get 1/2" fills in the front. I would like it to be pretty fast. Thanks

Yeah, 1/2" would raise it really fast. It all depends on pressure too. If you have 200psi in the tank then it'll come up a lot faster than if you have 120 in there. I'm happy with the 3/8" valves that I have for fills. It is plenty fast for me.

I just read the article on the brackets for the rear. Seems to me the only real reason to use those is if you don't want to spend the time to drill the 1" hole through the frame/notch for the bag port to run the fitting straight up and through. It was a PITA to do so, but that bracket will cost you about an inch more of drop. If you don't want to go low then it won't be an issue.

Hmm yea it wouldn't lower as much, but would save time. Time to decide... Probably won't go with them, I don't want to get it installed and decided it aint low enough. I WANT TO GO LOW!!! Ok enough of that. Thanks for all the help, and I am sure at some point I will have more questions.
