McGaughy's notches
Anybody have experience with McGaughy's notches? Do they fit any better than the cpp kit and are there any issues with the trac bar? Thanks for your input.

Re: McGaughy's notches
i used the kp ones. kinda pricey but a real nice fit just had to grind down one spot on each side. other than that i am really happy with mine.

Re: McGaughy's notches
Steveo, they are talking about a c-notch, not a step notch. The KP step notch does look sweet compared to the "universal" notches made by some others.
I haven't tried my CPP notches yet, but my super track bar mount was about 1/4" too big for my trailing arm. The shock relocator took up some of that, but it is still a little big. |

Re: McGaughy's notches
I used a McGaughy's bolt in C-notch. With the notch in the "right" position according to the instructions, the bolt holes wouldn't line up w/the frame holes. You couldn't drill new holes b/c they would have been too close to the holes already in the notch and would have just made a huge hole. With the bolt holes lined up w/the frame holes, the notch didn't fit the frame. I chose the latter. I wasn't happy w/the fit, but this isn't a show truck so whatever.
Won't be buying another one from them, and it makes me wonder about their other products too.

Re: McGaughy's notches
Rivetd1,... do you have any pics of the final results? I'd like to see how bad it fits. I have one of these,... just haven't installed it yet.

Re: McGaughy's notches
Does anyone know if the Air Ride notches work with coils? I read somewhere thatthey fit the frame contours real nice. They do sell them separately.

Re: McGaughy's notches
what i did with mine was i bolted the very front hole up, then i drilled a hole in the rear and heated up the front of hte plate and screwed the rear bolt in so that it bent back. With taht all done, where the frame curves it sits away about 1/4 of an inch for about 5 inches. Im not worried about it because i welded AND bolted mine it, but it did suck that none of the holes fit.

Re: McGaughy's notches
You probably did what I should have done, but my tool arsenal is limited. I just used (most) of the pre-cut holes and slid the notches back about an inch. The axle actually fits in the notches better. When aired out, the axle would have hit the back side of the notch, not the top. But you can see in the pics that the extra inch probably would have made the notch come much closer to matching the frame. I had to cut off some of the DS notch for the panhard bar mount. I then had to drill a couple of mounting holes in the rear for that side. The front side of the PS notch also had to have a hole redrilled, but all of the others lined up. Basically, a big PITA for something that is supposed to be "bolt-on."
But who's to say that yours won't fit better, Lolife99. They could differ batch to batch I bet.

Bags And here is that gap like yours. I was thinking of cutting it, banging it towards the frame, then welding. I still might do that. POS if you ask me. The notch fits fine over the axle. Last edited by lyrikz; 08-25-2008 at 09:59 PM. |

Re: McGaughy's notches
Yeah I came to realize real quick with this thing (it's my first build) that nothing is ever "bolt-on". My next big purchases are an air compressor, a welder, and a plasma cutter!

Re: McGaughy's notches
Wow! As much as I hate CPP for all their customer service issues, I will say that their notch is a much better fitting piece...
