Front U Bolts
Has anyone replaced their stock lower control arm shaft u bolts on a '70 1/2 ton or similar? I bought a set from Truckandcarshop and they arent even close to the same size. There are 2 different types in the catalogs...7/16" and 1/2" and I can only assume they are referring to the bolt diameter. I ordered the 1/2" and they are NOT as thick as my old ones and the diameter of the bolt bend is way off. They wont even try to get around the control arm shaft. If anyone has any suggestions of where to get some I would appreciate it.

Re: Front U Bolts
No luck with the local dealer. I guess I will try CPP next and go from there.
Truckandcarshop made me pay to send them back the ubolts the catalog said i needed. My old bolts were thicker AND wider. I guess you spend a few grand with a company and they still decide to stick you when the opportunity presents itself. Oh, I checked out their selection at the Moultrie show in November and their "sale" prices were like 5-8% off catalog prices....wow.

Re: Front U Bolts
Don't know if this will help anyone but we have a 68 chassis here at the shop that uses 2 different sizes of U bolts on the control arm cross shaft. The front ones were smaller in bolt diameter than the rear. This could explain why you saw the 2 different sizes in the catalog.

Re: Front U Bolts
Mine came from LMC. Apparently the 1/2" ubolts aren't available but they send out 9/16" with the same curve, I just had to enlarge a couple holes where the saddles weren't riveted perfect with the frame.

Re: Front U Bolts
I talked directly with a guy named Noah at truckandcarshop. He was very helpful when their bumperbrackets didn't fit right, even sent me another set with a prepaid return slip to mail the extras back when I was done. Seemed like a nice fella...

Re: Front U Bolts
I talked to the same guy and he made me pay to ship the things back for a refund.

Re: Front U Bolts
I used '73-'87 u-bolts that I got from my chevrolet dealer on my '71 2wd blazer. (they were 9/16") I bought new lock nuts at the hardware store. Worked perfect. Maybe the '70 and older trucks are different.

Re: Front U Bolts
The dealers have them. My local dealership had them in stock, the p/n is in the computer. I didn't write it down. You just have to find a counter guy willing to look it up.
