Just picked up a new toy tonight.

Just got back from picking up a new toy. 1977 Long bed. I saw it up on Craigslist last week, ad said it had 454, auto and recent brakes & exhaust but needed body work. I figured I would just put my 1985 body on it and make 1 nice truck out of two. Well, finially got it down to my buddy's shop and it is too nice to cut up.
Drivers side was swiped, but it didnt hit the cab, just the door & fender and rear corner of the bed. Truck looks to be original, complete and not gaffed up at all. 454 with AC is all there, truck has power windows, factory tach, tilt colum and cruise control. I couldnt believe the amount of options and how clean it was for the price. Here are a couple of pics from the camera phone. I'll get a copy of the glovebox door and some better pics. Looks like the 85 is going to have to wait...

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

Looks great! I would leave it alone or at least not part it out. I thought 1976 was the last year for the orange engines but maybe it is 1977? It is nice to find these old trucks in mostly original condition.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

Thanks, the posted pictures really dont do it justice. There are some dents and dings and some small rust spots here and there, but it looks real solid. Cab, rockers and floor are mint. Even the Jack & Tire iron look like they have never been taken off of the inner fender.

I acutally work in Bellingham, MA....about half way from Andover to RI.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

I just traded in my 2001 Silverado (with 153,000 miles) and got something a little better on fuel. The daily 140 mile round trip to work gets a little tough. But needed a pickup to haul the racecar and other things. Just happenend to stumble across this one. Plans include tune up, clean up and then fix the dents....at least for now....

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

well with the 454 looking at you your gonna end up addign on to it. it just kinda happens .... That looks like it is gonna be one sweet truck! Are you gonna repaint it in sock trim and paint color? Also if you need a list of MA junk yards just let me know.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

I have another toy to get carried away with...a V8 long bed S10. Pretty stout motor, a pro race Nitrous fogger setup on it and a 9" ladderbar setup.

I may hit you up for the junk yard list. I am good friends with the the owner and son of the local yard. Nothing better than having a friend that owns a junkyard.....maybe a friend that owns a liquor store...naa...I'd take the junkyard. If you are down this way, I'll put a good word in for you....

[QUOTE=bulky]Nothing better than having a friend that owns a junkyard[QUOTE]

One of my closest friends had a junkyard that specialized in Chevy trucks. Too bad I was driving a Buick at the time. He got out of the business before I bought my truck...

That truck looks like it has a lot of potential. I'm afraid mine would have to have a BBC too if it wasn't a daily driver. I can hardly affor the gas as it is.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

thanks Bluky. My truck is complete as of right now but i need abunch of odds and ends and a seat real bad. My truck is away for the winter so when it comes out this spring i would be interested in letting itsstrech its legs and take a trip down to Ri. Lemme know I got a whole shopping list of small stuff i need.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

Finally got a chance to take some pictures of the 77. Gotta love picking up a $1000 truck with $2500 worth of recipts in the glove box.
Next steps are to clean up the little things: tune up, tighten front bumper, start the search for new Drivers side door, fender and trim.

Oh yeah you definitely stole that one. These picks really tell the story. The seat looks mint. After you do the tuneup you might want to snap some burnout pics.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

The receipts over the last 2 years were for Exhaust front to rear, all new brakes...rotors & calipers, front end suspension was done and a pile of other odds & ends. Truck is tight stops mint. The paperwork even shows the mileage when the work was done, Truck has had less than 3,000 miles on it in the last two years. The previous owner said he didnt have the time that the truck deserved. He did ask for "Visitation Rights" and he was looking forward to seeing it around town again after its buffed up.

Soooo.... anybody got 77 fenders & driverside trim for sale????

I'll work on the burnout photo.

Re: Just picked up a new toy tonight.

ha ha ha nice man. for the fender and door you could try Brandybrow auto parts i think they had a 73 to 80 in there yard. not sure though.

here is there web site.
http://www.brandybrowauto.com/

I also know of 5 other places but am not sure if they have 73 to 80 trucks.
they are:
Jack's used auto parts in billrica MA (they had a whole bunch of 80 and up blazers burbans and pickups but they got a crusher just recently) also they tend to be really high)
Hollands auto parts in billrica MA ( same as the above but they have less selection)
Park street auto parts in Salem NH ( never been here yet but i hear really good stuff about them)
salem auto salvage in salem ma (small one owner junk ard with good prices but not so good selection

These are some up in my area that are okay but it is hard to find good sheet metal up here as you know. Might want to try CregsList and of course the forsale section of this board.
My cusin lives down in west port and maybe he knows some more down your way. I also know that a good one is in framignham and another is down neat newbedford. good luck on your hunt!!

Also might give these people a call:
