Turbo 400 to Transfer Case

I am looking at a '82 Jimmy originally a diesel but converted to Chevy 350. The owner stated the 400 trans is bad, but has another 400 but its a 32 spline output shaft instead of the 28 spline that matches the transfer case. Any suggestions on how to match these up or should I just get the 28 spline rebuilt? I was unaware there were two different types. All input welcome.

Thanks
Don

Re: Turbo 400 to Transfer Case

If you feel up to it, you can swap out the input gear to match what you already have. Are you replacing the x-fer case too? If it was already attached to a TH-400, it should have the correct input gear. As far as I know, the 700R4's and TH-350 had 27 spline output and the TH-400's and SM-465 had 32 spline output.

Re: Turbo 400 to Transfer Case

Thanks guys, you answered what I thought. I am familiar with two wheel drive trans, but not four wheel. I will find out what he has today.

Re: Turbo 400 to Transfer Case

What is wrong with the Transmission?
The diesel torque converter is all wrong for a gas engine.

This is just something to check out before spending too much.
