New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
Well, I wish I was posting this gorgeous Jimmy that I'll be cruising around in all summer, but that isn't the case. Truth is, it's a total basket case, w/out the baskets , or the wheels, or a floor, or a door, or a rear hatch, or an engine, or a tranny or a transfer case.
It does has something though, a new owner. It has seats, a pretty good top, both axles and most of the body parts. It has complete steering (power) and power brakes, the gage cluster is still there. I bought it from the local salvage yard for $250. He says he's pretty sure the drivers door is around there somewhere. Lets just say I saved it from the crusher and hopefully can make it road worthy again. My plans are this: Find some wheels, a couple u-bolts for the rear axle and a trailer to tow it a storage area for now. Later plans include putting a floor in it, finding a rear hatch, finding a cheap drive train, see if I can make it driveable and street legal. After that, I have no real idea. No plans for full restoration, no future show winner here. It will either be a mudder or just something to beat around in as is, or fixed up as a decent driver. Here are some pics of my wreck...

Congrats! get that thing out of the yard before any other yard monkeys swipe any more parts off of it. It's got disc brakes too! Good score.

Welcome to the club, even though I'm not in the club...yet.They were in a hurry to get that motor out. They torched right through the motor mount crossmember Hope they didn't do the same with the t-case crossmember. Are the hooks still on the front, they are listed in the glovebox...

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
No hooks, I looked a couple years ago when I first saw this rig. Yeah, they cut the front crossmember, but I think the other one is sitting inside behind the rear seat.
What transfer case did these come with? He just got in a 73-75 blazer and is stripping it. He pulled the body off the frame, then cut the frame in half. Front half has all the drive train intact. He thinks it is an NP208, he wasn't sure really. Just knows it was a full time. What would that drive train be worth if it runs? HG

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
NP205 transfer case. Lots of parts around for these things, that's is half the fun. You get to meet new people, and spend lots of money. These classifieds are the best I have found!!! Its a treasure hunt and addictive.
Looks like you have a good start, is the frame solid? And the fun begins, enjoy the ride. Are you doing the rust work yourself?? l8r J.

Rust work? What rust work?
I'll do the best I can. First thing is getting U-bolts for the rear axle. They were cut to remove the axle, but the axle was never taken out. How do I know? The shocks are still connected, so they were cut for nothing. New replacements are $15 each, and the backing plates are missing. He swears he has some laying around somewhere. HG

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
It came with a NP205 stock.The 73-75 probably has a 203 unless it was a 4spd then it might have a 205.

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
I had some stock u bolts but I think they are gone now or I would give them to you.
Do you plan on lifting it?If you do,then you will get new u bolts so you only need 1 on each spring perch to get it home now and when you lift it you will get all new ones. |

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
Just slap some better fenders on there, find some cheap doors that you could cut down. Piece it slowly with rust free sheetmetal. It is out there. That is what I have been doing with my two trucks. The blazer was rust free when I bought it.

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
$15 each? I just had some custom bent for $7 including washers and nuts? All you need is 1/2" stock bent for a 3" axle. Look on Summit, probably $5 ea I bet... as for plates, well you can find stock or just drill 1/2" holes in a plate of steel spaced 3" bewtween centers and 3.25" between centers wide (maybe three there to but I will have to check for you)
Nice find, good luck with that floor... oh yeah, the engine x-member might work outta that newer blazer...

Hell yeah! I would pay $250 for that anyday. Good top, hood, dash, the seats even look usable with a little foam and some new covers. ANOTHER ONE SAVED!

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
Thanks for the tips.
Did all of the 72 GMC's have chrome grills? Because this one has surface rust, I was thinking of just sand blasting and painting or powder coating it. I was checking out the windshield posts, etc and they look alright, but there is some surface rust (at least) on the upper parts by the door wing windows. Is this the normal place they rust, or is it some other area around the windshield I need to look for? I'll buy new floor pans, and cut the rest of what I need from one of the other trucks he has sitting there. I'll need a new hatch, any sources out there for those? Did the Jimmy's have 2 piece drive shafts to the rear, or just one? He may have the drive shafts around, but I didn't see them right there. Oh yeah, there was a nice set of hub caps in the back too. Steel wheels are fine with me. HG

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
I found a set of rallyes with 31 x 10.5 tires for $100. As an added bonus, the same guy is going to let me store it by his shop. That will at least keep the wife happy. He's a retired guy who is spending his retirement building hot rods. His shop is out of the way, but only about 6 blocks from my house.
Looks like I'll eventually have to start a build thread. I also found a TH350 tranny with NP205 case for $400.00. With a few more pieces/parts and an engine, it might actually move under it's own power much sooner than I had thought.

Re: New Jimmy 4x4 Club Member
Brother's trucks sells the rear hatch shells for $450-$500 bucks plus proabably another $100 bucks for shipping! Hatches in good condition are pretty hard to find, usually they are all busted up unfortunately....new ones are ridiculously expensive but if you got the cash...
