The numbers on my rear axel are 3934635 Can anyone tell me what rear this is? I bought two pinion seals from the auto parts store and they are both too small...

Re: Need help identifying rear end...
Do you have a dana 60 or an eaton ho52? The eaton will have a rear cover that is completely round and would look like a bowl if removed

Yes, it is the Eaton HO52 it looks like. Are these strong axels?

Re: Need help identifying rear end...
I come up with a napa number 25970 which fits both the 52 and the 72

Re: Need help identifying rear end...
Another question... I took the pinion nut off (what a pain) and now I am wondering what torque to put it back on. I have searched the site and have come up with anywhere between 175-400 ft lbs for the ho52. Am I correct in assuming that I can put the nut on 175 lbs and put the cotter pin in and be done with it?

Re: Need help identifying rear end...
no you are not scrd, Re in stall the nut to 175 then mark that spot. with a small punch. Turn the nut additional 1./8 th turn past the mark. Should be about 3-3-1/2 threads out in front of the nut. Ball park figure there. Never seen one of these with a cotter key. May want to set the nut by punching a couple of places around the shaft and nut to keep it from working its way off. or use some locktite. my.02% keep the faith

Re: Need help identifying rear end...
Yes, it has a cotter pin. It's set up pretty much like a set of front wheel bearings on a rwd car from what I can tell. Bearing on the inside I can't get to, then one toward the outside, then a washer, castle nut and pin...

Re: Need help identifying rear end...
in that case turn the nut past the punch mark to the next spot for the insertion of the cotter key.
