guys i swapped the rear axles on my 65 c/10 for 5 lug axles now the problem is when i buy new brake hardware they don't seem to fit . i have bought new shoes ,drums ,cylinders ,but the spring and stuff look a lot different . i was told that up to 72 parts would fit . help please

The 5 lugs for pickups started in '71 and should be basically the same until around '75 or '76 when GM went to a 2 1/2" wide shoe. Where did you get your axles from? I've not done what you have with the axles, but it would seem the hardware from the above mentioned years should fit. One thing that just popped into my head is that starting in '66, the brakes had self adjusters on them. In '65 they did not. Could this be the difference you are refering to?

Did they skip 65 with the self-adjusters?

My 64 C10 has self adjusters on all 4.

You put axles in but you still have the 1965 backing plates. The only thing you changed was the fact that is was a 6 lug but is now a 5 lug the rest in the same except for the drums of course. This is why I op for changing out the whole rearend..

You shouldn't have to change anything but the drums. I bought the CPP or Ece kit, can't quite remember but the kit just came with axles and drums. all my brake stuff worked. I didn't have to change any of the brrake hardware, mine still uses the '65 stuff.

bought the axles from cpp also ,they fit perfect ,got the rearend back together .didn't know i had to change the backing plates ,i for some reason can't get the springs to fit ,the brake shoes and drums look the same .
