What did you get done? 07/29

I had to work Saturday, so I got up early and washed my truck....and it rained....again. This is going on week 8 that we have had rain every day.

Today I managed to get a bit of yard work done before the heat wiped me out. I decided to move inside to the garage and work on my wifes new ride. She bought a Yukon Denali XL with a 6.2 and 6 spped tranny. I decided to do some upgrades. Here's a thread on it-Link

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

i celebrated my 19th birthday,i bought a 88 lincoln Mark VII LSC for parts, my dad said i should start driving it though!,i had listed the motor out of my truck for sale a few times on craigslist, a guy came down here with cash and offered me some money for it, i lost about $1,000+ on that, so we took it out of the truck tonight.

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

I got my new coil springs installed in place of the ones I ruined last weekend . Other than that , yardwork , delivered a 12 bolt Chevelle rear to Waco Friday night , burned some brush piles , Etc . My new BFG's are here so I should get them mounted in the next day or so . It was a nice ride 91 miles ,one way, to Waco in the 87 3/4 ton with 4.10's and no overdrive but it only used around a half tank of gas . Frank

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

Saturday: Got the wifes 06 CrewCab back from the bodyshop after almost $12,500 in damage was repaired mowed the lawn in the blistering heat.
Went to a benefit concert and saw Cross Canadian Ragweed and Mickey and the Motorcars and had a few beers.
Sunday: I thought about working on the blazer, but the heat coupled with the beers from saturday night kept me indoors under the A/C

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

Drove to Fresno (I live about 35 miles up the hill toward Yosemite) with the trailer on the back of the FJ Cruiser. Thought I was going to pick up the old 305 and give it a bath before either mothballing it or ????

Instead, the motor had not been sufficiently scavenged for the 350 (sitting behind the 305 in the picture).

It was hot. I dumped the trailer for Tim to fill up with the motor, a bunch of other parts, etc. when it cools off.

Then the "Boss" and I went to lunch....Home for a couple of honey-dos and a nap.

Back flying the desk tomorrow.

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

BTW, Tim said when he went under, pulled of the starter, etc, he turned the flywheel with his hand. My guess is that tired 305 (130k on it....a good part of it Farm Truck miles) had a compression ratio of about 2:1.

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

Unfortunately, nothing truck related on 'my' trucks.

Worked late Fri night & then went in again early Sat am. Left work Sat & picked up an S-10 from an old neighbor to rebuild the front end for him. Got that finished just as it was getting dark & was pretty beat.

Today..... my GF decided today would be the day we re-vamped the extra upstairs bedroom (formerly her daughters 'toy' room). She wants it to be a gust bedroom or something along those lines so we did some painting & watched some of the race in between walls/coats.

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

Fired up my Carb to TBI conversion on my '75 C20 for the first time. Short video on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfxuOOliRdg

Wow, a lot more throttle response, much smoother idle, etc etc.

Still plenty of work ahead:
In cab wiring harness (you saw that mess didn't you??)
P/N switch mod
TCC mod
TV cable check
Air cleaner assembly yet to be determined

But 8 month of hard work finely paid off - it fired on the first try

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

Friday - went over to my buddy's place in hickville in the afternoon (barely beat rush hour traffic), evening went to the bar, got me a new female friend (lil blond cutie, drives a '78 K10 stepper), "danced" in the parking lot with said new female friend (ever seen pickups run circles around each other cause of the rear ends coming around while laying down some rubber?), and ended up the evening at my buddy's house with five Chevy and two Ford trucks parked all over the front lawn, and a Dodge in the back yard with a big-a$$ TV in the bed and a cable running from the house, and a whole lot of stupid chilling around the bonfire (what's that thing called a fire code?) roasting marshmallows and chasing each other for the remote for the TV and flipping between G.A.C. and CMT

Saturday - new female friend brings over her lil bro and his dirt bike, dirt bike gets a new chain, then my bike gets new wiring for the fuses, then off we all go fishing, darn kid kept catching all the fish and I didn't catch nothing The evening we spend at the same bar where the owner was throwing a baby party for some local trucker kid who became a daddy on Friday but just hauled in from down Texas

Sunday - bike gets some more more mechanical fix-ups, truck gets some more interior fix-ups, and I head for home, taking as many windy back roads and dirt roads as I can, all is good, truck pulls steady 35mph and 1500rpms in 2nd and gas gauge barely moves, then near Grass Lake or Glass Lake or whatever I pass a broke-down John Deer tractor - turns out engine just shut off, guy ain't got a clue why, but he got his two lil kids with him, a trailer full of hay, and like 10 more miles to home, but most importantly he got a long towing chain - my rear trailer hitch ain't got no ball on it so bolting up the chain was real simple, then tie it to the Deer and off we go - keeping it in 1st at 2k rpms is all it took to get the folks home, and let me tell ya their lady makes the best darn apple pie I've had When I got at my place tho I found out some oil stains on the top of the intake behind the carb, gotta pull the air cleaner of these days to see where the heck it came from, but I know is it wasn't there when I pulled off my buddy's place... Oh well, old trucks are made to be fixed, lol

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

I bought a 'new' truck last Wednesday to work on.

It came with an extra front clip which I sold on Saturday morning. Then I worked a few hours cleaning her up a bit. I used a couple cans of kerosene based engine cleaner and hit it with the high pressure sprayer at the coin-op carwash . Spent a few minutes futzing with the timing and tweaking the carb to get it to run half way decent.

Plan is to install my 454HO motor, TH400 trans, 12-bolt rear end and Belltech suspension components.

My daughter turned 1 on Thurs. We had her B-day party on Sat. It was awesome... it was the first day it hasn't rained at all for I don't know how many weeks now.

Spent Sun. cleaning the mess and recovering.

Re: What did you get done? 07/29

Saturday I got the frame of my '67 wire wheeled down to bare metal and then painted on POR-15 from the cab back. Came out really nice. Sunday I was going to finish the rear end and the trailing arms but a better offer came up and I spent the day on the lake wakeboarding. 1/2-way through the day after our second set my buddy runs the rope over and got it good and stuck in the prop. (on an inboard with no trim) He had just spent $120 on the rope and handle so didn't want to cut it. After 45 minutes it started pouring, we got drenched and finally decided to cut the rope. Cut it enough to limp to a bridge in a canal for some shelter. Luckily it only lasted 30 minutes, then we limped back out into open water and it took me another 30 minutes to cut the rest out. After that we were all hungry so we cruised over to the Tiki Bar and got some beers, burgers, and a game of horseshoes. Pretty good day except the rope incident.

Truck plans are taking a back seat at the moment... lining up some headers and other bolt ons for the 'vette.

Is there going to be any sort of Texas-area meet anytime soon? Or at least a car show where I could run into someone from Texas on this board?
