rear drop spring question

I have a 72 c-10 with 2 inch drop spindles on the front and stock springs on the rear. My question is how much of a drop spring will I need in the rear to level out the truck? I was told that a 3 inch drop spring will only lower it 2 inches, is this correct? I want the rear fender lip about 3 inches lower than stock.

Measure the front fender lip, then measure the rear fender lip. Order a spring that's the same as the difference. A 2" spring should result in a 2" drop. Exception: if the stock rear springs are worn, you might not notice ANY drop with lowering springs.

The diagram in the LMC catalog says stock height should be 32" front and 34" rear. I can't tell you if that is accurate or not, but it's just a reference.

Thanks for your help glock35ipsc! My springs are new and my fender lips are 30" front and 34" rear so I think a 3 inch drop spring in the rear would make it look a lot better.

That should give you a very nice stance, close to level with a slight rake to it. That should look perfect!

I went with 2 1/2" drop spindles with 4" drop springs in back as that was a very recommended combo for my 72 C-10. I wish now I would have gone with 5" springs, as I want a more level stance. I think I will bag the back so I can get it perfect, and hopefully get a smooth ride while I'm at it. A rear bag set-up using just a schraeder valve fill is not much more money than the drop springs alone. If you run it too low you might need a c-notch. With the 4" springs, I have only lightly tapped the bump stops when I go over some rough railroad tracks at 40mph, but that's empty. With a moderate load I slow down to about 30mph, 'cause I don't want to bottom out hard. If I go with a 5" drop, I would want a c-notch for the extra clearance, even though many people feel that it isn't necessary. I guess I feel like I need more room for error so it wouldn't matter if I get a little absent minded and forget not to drive too aggressively.
