Bought a Suburban
I asked a question about converting to TBI on my old 77 . I picked the suburban up today since it rained and there wasnt anything else to do . It turns out it is a 1989 Sub. and there are plenty of good parts . I wish it wasnt a 10 bolt 6 lug rear since it appears to have 3.73's . I would have liked to use the rear in my truck . I have a couple questions about the thing .
1- Are suburban rear leaf springs the same as truck springs? 2-When I pull the computer and injection out , should I take the entire under dash wiring or should I buy an aftermarket wiring harness like Painless Wiring . 3- are there any significant differences on the under dash A/C components? 4- If so would it be worth swapping the A/C controls and main box into the old truck . The newer controls seem to move easier and I assume are more electric than cable operated . 5- Are there performance camshafts and chips still readily available for TBI motors ?What experiences have you had with them? I intend to have the truck painted and wonder if it would be worth gutting the cab and installing these things after it is painted . I am thinking about pulling the engine from the suburban and rebuilding . That way I will have a new engine if I get the fuel injection transferred over . I am going to have a parts listing maybe this weekend on the parts I dont intend to use . I will get pics and post it on the parts board . Sorry about the long post . If you can answer any of the questions , please do . Frank

Re: Bought a Suburban
You can use the 6 lug rearend by swapping in a set of 5 lug axles.

2- I would get everything from the ECM plugs to the motor and mark those that are tied in. It only takes like 4 wires to make it work. If it ends up being to much to worry about, then go the easy route. 3- same, you can swap the units out if you like, but they were still vacuum. 4- only if you wanted to add some work to your project with no gains (except maybe better seals... 5- yes they are still availible, I don't have personal experience with them though. thirdgen.org has alot of guys messing with them though.

Re: Bought a Suburban
So are the spring perches the same width apart as the trucks?

Re: Bought a Suburban
Yes. I was wondering if the suburban rear would swap with the truck rear? But wasn't sure if the spring perch's would need cut off. Then welded back up in the correct spot.
