64 1ton......... thinking bout buying it...?????

i found a 64 1 ton truck that is in really good shape body and rust wise. its got a 230/3-speed on the floor. he says they drove it for years and was running when parked and it should start and run good but it has had a few parts stolen here and there. he wants $700 and i might could talk him down but i dont have alot of money at all. but the worst part is if its not gone in 7 days ITS GOIN TO THE CRUSHER!!!!! i cant stand by and watch this good truck get crushed especially after ive wanted a 1-ton for so long. so im gonna pull a few strings and see what i can do to get the cash, and im also gonna talk to some friends and see if there interested. im gonna try my hardest to get the money and maybe talk him down a few bucks. heres a few pics, lemme know what yall think.
thanks,
John

Re: 64 1ton......... thinking bout buying it...?????

I would love to have something like that to make a car hauler out of. It will take quite a bit of cash just to make it road worthy I'd say, but he just about giving it away, so if you a place to let it sit go for it. When it's done you'll have something really cool! How hard is it to get parts for one of those?

Just an FYI. That should be a four speed rather than a 3 speed that you mention. That transmission has the granny gear first.

Re: 64 1ton......... thinking bout buying it...?????

if i get this truck my other will probably have to go. for 2 reasons.... (1)- i dont even have anything to drive every day right now so im gonna have to get something. (2)- im 18 and i still live at home so my mom calls the shots around here, and i have the shop full with my 62 in pieces, my 66 with the front clip and engine out and bed off sitting in the driveway. i have the room but my mom would freak!!!!!! so one has to go. but i would like the 1 ton better anyways. if im gonna keep all three then i can move some stuff around in the shop and maybe fit my 66 in there so its out of sight. ill take a pic of the driveway/shop later and show ya what i mean. and just keep in mind the shop is huge but about 1/4 of it has a little apartment built in it.
thanks,
John

Re: 64 1ton......... thinking bout buying it...?????

He isn't going to get $700 for it at the crusher so he'll most likely go lower..I dont think it's worth over $500 but that's just me..Those 67-72s on the sides of it...save them!!!

My thinking exactly. I haven't checked on the scrap prices lately but in my opinion, even at a high guess, he wouldn't get any more than $300.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

And then he has to haul it there to boot.

I'm not saying it is it in this case, but some people just love to use the "going to the crusher" routine.

I would offer $400 cash. The worse he could say is "No".

hewlett, Even if you are on vacation, you could always call him on the phone, make the deal and drop a check in the mail (small deposit).

By the way, I'm a big 1-Ton fan myself. Still have 3.

Well, if you can't keep it, just paint the whole thing with POR 15 and sell it for $900. It will look a lot better in black than rust.

Re: 64 1ton......... thinking bout buying it...?????

your shops clean compared to mine, you can walk through without avoiding engines, cranks, 5 foot pipwrenches and 55 chevy fenders. your good to go.

Thats when it was clean back in the day, now theres more stuff crammed in the same space. When we sell out all those little rare pieces will be in stock EVERYWHERE.
