Re: newbie here with ? about gas mileage
well i have an 1986 with a 350 and she get around 13. i beileve that about average for these trucks. Now if you had a 305 and 2 something rear end gear your mpg will go you your transmission mostlikly is a th350.

Re: newbie here with ? about gas mileage
Scooby Doo is probably pretty close -- i would not be surprised if it got as bad as 10, or as good as 13 or 14 and anything in between. The type of auto and the rearend gear ratio will affect this somewhat. A lot of times, the factory put steep rearends in the I6 trucks to boost the torque, but it would not make sense to put a heavy duty th400 back there, so it is prob a th350 (unless its a 'glide -- but i dont even know if those were available anymore in 73

i dont think the glides were either and i know that finding a cast iron one is damn near impossible.

Re: newbie here with ? about gas mileage
My guess would be a 292 strait 6, th350, something around a 3.42 gear. I would estimate mid teens for gas mileage.
