Rocker Scraping project...

Well, I have about 21 days before I head out to the boat and I think I may of finally decided what I'm doing with my two rigs. I'll be placing them in heated storage while I'm out to sea, but before they even set one inch of rubber outside of the garage I'm going to do some extensive work on the blazer and some small cosmetics on Brownie.

Brownie's work:
-Clean and detail Exterior/Interior
-Replace swaybar poly mounts
-Possibly buy a set of Torque Thrust II Classics/Torque Thrust D's for it....thats still up in the air.

Blazer's work (Rocker Scraping Project):
-Install new Alternator
-Install new bypass hose
-Take care of rust issues in rockers (sand down, cut out and replace depending on extent of rust)
-Install new replacement fender
-Repaint Cowl Induction hood
-Fabricate a fan shroud
-Replace older Torque Thrusts II's with the newer ones I purchased and ran on the stepside for 3 months or put the TT D's on this and the polished ones back on the stepside...not sure yet.
-Replace Rear Bumper
-Replace the goodmark headlight bezels and moldings for the nice used oem ones I just picked up earlier today.
-Install my new oem grill
-Buy & Install new Belltech 3" Drop Spindles and 2" Drop Coils in front, possibly with a 1 coil cut off of the drop coils.
-Buy & Install Air-over-leaf kit and compressor

Quite a bit to do and not too much time left for me to do it in. My blazer will be here tomorrow from the shipping company(don't worry I'll take pictures), and we'll go from there. I only had two questions and they are directed more towards those with airride, especially N2TRUX since I remember seeing Air over leafs on yours. Is a good direction to go, or should I buy that new fancy bolt on air bar kit airride has? Second is should I keep the coils up front or do the strong arm conversion? I'm just trying to get the blazer lower and meaner before I leave.

Anyway, I'll post an update tomorrow with pics and what not.

It really depends on what your ultimate goal is. If your going with air in the rear, why go with springs up front?

If you buy 3" spindles now, you will still use them when you bag it so nothing is wasted. If you buy 2" drop springs then cut them, you will have a hrad time selling them later. If time doesn't allow you to do air up front, then do 3" spindles and cut the stock coils. You can adjust the rear to balance out with the front.

The air over leaf system is NOT recommended by Air Ride but it does work. It was the least invasive option available. It has worked just fine for me accomplishing my goal of getting as low as possible without cutting the bed.

Personally I would do it all at one time even if it means waiting. Focus on your truck until you have time to bag the Blazer. Decide how low you really want to be and set that as your goal. Do it once and be done with it...

An Update And Some X-mas Pics

Well, little update, blazer is back and safe. Spent the first night and morning fixing what the transporters took into their own hands doing to try to start it which ended up being a 2 hour battery charging and starting re-wiring nightmare. But it is running now, albeit not well...has a little too much fuel pressure and it seems to have washed out a cylinder and wants to backfire at an idle so I bought a regulator and I'll be installing that soon. Bought a nice used bumper, and headlight bezels to use.

A few little refurbishing touches to the bezels.

My new grill

My nicer used bumper that I'm taking to the bumper guy this week to have it tweaked.

The blazer sitting in the driveway on X-mas

A nice little gift santa brought me (have to cancel my LMC order now)

And it did snow today, so all in all it was a good x-mas.

Here you go N2TRUX...NVRENOUGH

All right here it is.... 1972 factory 2wd Blazer, bought in the backyard of a church, been in project stage since 2001. Has full powder coated semi-gloss black frame, tubular a-arms, cool-ride air ride on both ends with scotts hot rod drop member, and air ride triangulated four bar in the rear. Has quite a few body mods that I don't really want to go into at this moment. 9" 31 spline ford rear end, rack and pinion steering, 4-wheel baer disc brakes, 17x11 Billet Specialties Legacy's with Knockoffs and 285/40/17 GForce BFG's. Tremec 5 speed, and a completely custom built 598ci bbc w/jesel roller rockers, custom ground cam, 2 1/8" ID custom built headers, brodix aluminum heads, and many other components, dynoed at 908hp, and 870ft-lbf of torque without the new headers. Any questions feel free to ask them, I can always provide more pictures as well.

Quick question before you go out to sea. Where could I get or what other vehicles can I get a rack and pinion from like the one you have set up on your truck? Thats pretty sweet and genious idea to get rid of the gearbox etc. Thanks.

Jim Meyer Racing and Fat man Fabrication come to mind. They both offer Mustang II style fronts with Rack steering. Also Dropmember is another way cool option..

Is Uncle Ken gonna pitch in?

No...really, if it was mine and not my old mans then it would actually be in the same stage....awaiting body/paint (a good $20k-30k away), Interior ($2000), 55-gal fuel tank that is sitting up at a friends house, and just some fit and finish. My dad just works on it from time to time whenever he gets in the mood. When you have a 18 year old daughter (my sister) wanting to go to some $25k+/yr college, and he's paying for community college, gas, insurance, etc. for her right now, the toys seem to stay in limbo for a while. Although lately he's been talking some crazy talk about selling the blazer and tranny, keeping the motor and buying another 69' camaro...I always try to deter that possibility.

BTW Ken, do you have a linky to where I can actually donate some mula to the site? Everytime I go looking I seem to get lost or can't seem to find it or something

EDIT: Nevermind, I actually browsed the 67-72 truck part part of the forum and found a link...heh

On another note...I traded some old wheels out and got a new set of rollers. I got a set of 15" Wheel Vintique Corvette Rally's, currently repainting and piecing them together. I will have pictures of them on the blazer tomorrow or so. They'll be on there until I find a set of 265/50/15 series tires (anyone know of anyone besides Cooper that still makes these?) or sell the set of Torque Thrust II's off of Brownie.
