1 piece driveshaft
Can I run one on a LWB truck? I changed the SWB with no probs just not sure about the LWB. I have an absolete carrier bearing and would rather just change the shaft than modify the carrier bearing set up.

lwb normally have to long of a stretch to use a 1 piece without having problems.... the shaft will actually start "whipping" because the length is to long. imperial driveline sells both styles of center bearings. i have a 71 lwb and kept blowing up napa bearings i switched to theres and have not had a problem.... and that truck is abused regularly.
if you dont mind me asking where did you get the 1pc shaft for you swb? i just swapped a bbc and th400 into my swb and need a shaft (sorry i dont mean to hyjack your thread) thanks and hope that helps 71rat

I had the SWB custom made and the LWB uses a carrier bearing that is obsolete.

The 72 frame I just got had a i piece drive line custom made by Six states here in Idaho. It was a lwb truck. The transmission and transfer case were moved back 6 inches, so the guy had to shorten the drive line and went with a one piece. My 67 lwb has a 2 piece in it. So I guess it can be done, don't know why not other than like 71rat said, whipping will occur with too long a shaft.

I parted out a 67 gmc with a original one piece driveshaft in it, had a turbo 400 tranny going to a dana rearend

Yes it was a lwb, I forgot to add it had a the 351 V6 motor too

I ran one for years on my L6/3spd LWB truck. After going through carrier bearings on an annual basis, I got sick and tired of it and went with a 1-piece shaft through Six States here in Portland. I never looked back and it served me very well for a number of years.
With proper setup, a carrier bearing can work very well for decades, however the cheap crappy ones you find at most LAPS won't last very long. They're made overseas and only spot welded and any slight separation will cause the rubber to begin spinning in the housing making it deteriorate rapidly. If at all possible spare no expense when setting up a new carrier bearing and hopefully it'll last you for another 40 years. However, I didn't want to take that chance and decided to be over and done with it and pay $175 and a few hours time and KNOW that I wouldn't ever have any more problems.....ever.
