Grandaddy's 53
Well, I guess I've graduated into another section of the board now. I just purchased (from my uncle) my Grandaddy's 53 Chevy. He used it as a hunting truck before he died in a car crash in '84, and it's been sitting around his place in south Louisiana since then. It was originally owned by the US Navy, and still has a Navy tag inside the cab on the kickpanel. (Kinda fitting since my Grandaddy was in the Navy) Anyway, he had just gotten it painted and was fixing it up before he died, which probably saved it to some degree. It has some rust here and there, but nothing that can't be fixed,(especially since it's built with REAL metal, thick enough to work with), and is very straight except for the tailgate and LF fender. It isn't as bad as I expected, considering how long it sat, the engine still turns free, and the steering feels tight, but definately needs to be out of the weather to slow the rust down. I haven't decided what to do with it yet, because I have no time for it, but maybe one day. For now I'll soak it down with Ospho and try to build a shed for it or something.

Re: Grandaddy's 53
Thanks. I'd love to be able to build it like yours one day, but I've got too many irons in the fire right now. I just had to keep it in the family. I've got two boys(4 & 7) that may take a interest one day though. Nice build you have going there.

Re: Grandaddy's 53
Nice truck - Just keep it out of the weather, you don't need to make any big decisions now - that will be a fun project some day.
