The Copenhagen/Skoal Crusher
In 1985 my friend Seth Doulton was at the forefront of the monster truck scene.
He saw how popular the Bigfoot ford was , and decided to build a chevy to help promote his business, Golden State Pickup Parts. He built a 58 chev cameo, with jaguar power, and got sponsorship from skoal tobacco products. The monster truck thing took off, and by 1990 he had a fleet of chevy monster trucks. there was the 58 cameo, 2 1972 chevys, a 1972 gmc , 2 73-87's, and the 1966 copenhagen/skoal crusher. Seth stayed in the game for a few years, but when the monster trucks fell on a flat spot in the mid 90's (pre monster jam) , he sold off the fleet, and went back to selling and reproducing truck parts. I am not 100% positive, but I think the 58, and the 66 ended up in japan. |

Re: The Copenhagen/Skoal Crusher
Thanks for pictures, Jon. But, I've driven the original "monster truck"...
As a kid I got a chance to drive a log skidder just like the Clark in the picture below. At twice the weight of the above monster trucks, it could really flatten a car. My Dad taught at our local college that had a heavy equipment program.

Re: The Copenhagen/Skoal Crusher
This may sound like a stupid question, but will a monster truck float due to the bouancy of the tires?

Re: The Copenhagen/Skoal Crusher
yes and no, they will float as long as they are moving forward. the high center of gravity takes over when you stop and then you float upside down till you sink.

Re: The Copenhagen/Skoal Crusher
I remember all of those trucks and those ads from way back then. I had bought many parts from GSPP back in the early 90's. What happened to Seth and his company? Golden State Pickup Parts was the king of the hill for these trucks back then...
