Jacking and jack stand placement
Just wondering what jacking points and jack stand placement you guys are using.
1) do you prefer the engine cradle center to jack from or a front frame horn or rail? 2) When jacking the rear do you jack under the diff and place stands on the tubes or do you use the frame rails. Just wondering because it seems like everyone prefers one way or the other. To be honest I have never placed the front of my truck on jack stands even when doing the motor install (had a pit under it) Thanks for sharing

Front I always use the center of the engine cradle. Back I always use under the diff and place stands on the tubes, but if I need to drop the rear end I place the jack stands on the frame.

Re: Jacking and jack stand placement
On the front I put my jack under the engine cradle, and the jack stands on the frame or the A-arms. I always have the jack and jackstands there, I really don't want the truck falling on top of me.
The rear put the jack under the pumpkin and the stands on the axle tubes or frame. If I am working on the diff I use four jackstands, two on each side under the frame. I always have a "safety net" in case the jack or a jackstand fail. Don't forget to block the wheels too!

lol try having a '64 Belair rear wheel well land on your shoulder as it some how slips off the jack! that hurt like a mofo!! and just a tip for ya if you jack up a truck from one of the front frame horns...NEVER put the jack under a sway bar bushing...some of them have a drop bracket and they will bend if ya do.

Re: Jacking and jack stand placement
Old Chevy mechanic here. DON'T jack on pumpkin, plug welds in the housing can break free. REAR,2 & 4 wheel drive. Jack as near the "U" bolts as you can and still be able to put the stand between the "U" bolts under the tube. FRONT, 4 wheel drive same as rear. 2WD front, jack by cradle and place stands under lower control arm shaft near either "U" bolt that holds arm to frame. jim
