Original Radio - Anything else fit?

I'm wanting to keep the original look to the dash in my '65 and was wondering if anything else fits... maybe a push button radio. I don't want to go the USA-X route, I'm thinking of going with something that looks original that I can have modernized to AM/FM/IPod. I'm not interested in cutting up the radio slot to make something fit.

Thanks, that's what I'm looking to do... but I don't have a radio. I wondering if any other factory radio will fit in the truck's radio opening without having to use things like filler pieces. The original radio for my truck is just a volume and selector dial... I was thinking it would be nice to be able to stick something in there that had push buttons so I could "save" some of my favorite stations.

This may not be what you are looking for, but other members might find this to be a good compromise.

The Kenwood Krc-3006 is a shaft style player with a tape deck and CD changer control. It is the basis of the USA-1, etc series. But the Kenwood units are cheaper if you can find them used. I'm not sure if their is a way to adapt an Ipod to it.

Thanks, but I'm looking to use a period correct radio... I can use an original radio, but was just wondering if anything else from the mid-60's would fit... I'd prefer something with a push button. I'll more than likely send the radio out to be "modernized".

The factory radio in the '60-'66 Chevy trucks were equipped with a dial indicator, no push-buttons, however you can use a Chevy car radio of the same years, since they have push-buttons. Pre-sets are nice, however they are not period correct for the '60-'66 Chevy trucks.

I had a shaft-style Kraco in my '65, back in the early eighties, that came from K-mart, but I am not sure they sell that style any longer, but it fit into the factory radio opening, without modification.

Thanks Tony, I want to stay period correct but don't specifically need to stay truck correct. This expands my search quite a bit because I'm not now only looking for one specific radio.

The part is not offered new, however if you are looking to buy used, check the classified, there might be some there.

Some of the vendors have modern stereos made to fit in the original dash opening. Some look like they belong, some don't.

I personally do not recommend the USA series radios being offered as direct bolt-in radios for the '60-'66 Chevy Trucks. They lack wattage and they do not look remotely similar to the factory AM radio. I bought the USA-5 and USA-6 units, along with the 10 disk changer and it worked for about 6 months.

I will now spend my money to have the factory AM radio converted to AM/FM with outputs. For less money, I want my dash to look factory and have the flexibility of plugging in my iPod or CD changer.

This is my two cents, based on my personal experience.

I had this radio in my truck-not sure if its an original-I think it is an original 1966 chevy truck radio because the PO was the original owner and it was all there...original and untampered. I removed the radio and had it converted by Electro-Tech to AM/FM with auxillary jacks for Ipod,CDs, etc. Sounds REALLY nice!
