73-87 crossmember bolt in?
Somewhere I found a article that showed a 1950 1/2 ton with a 73 crossmember swap.He used a 1/2 plate on each side and it was almost a bolt in from there.Anyone seen this or better yet ---done it? He gained disk brakes better steering (power) and better springs ect ect for around $100.00 at a junkyard.

Re: 73-87 crossmember bolt in?
There are several. I did one in a 58. Most of the work is the same with exception of narrowing the frame to accept the cross member.
The link is here. http://www.thehollisterroadcompany.com/C10ifs.html The one for the AD truck is here http://53truck.ez15loan.com/howto/ifs.htm Cons Some of the issues are the C10 is to wide for an AD truck. Even with deep back spaced rims the tires still stick out. The end cost will be more like $700 by the time you replace bushings, calipers and what ever else is bad on the junker front end. Pros You do get a modern front end that will ride nice and steer like you want. If you can live with the tires out about an inch on each side I'd say go for it. I wouldn't do it in a task force truck again. |

Re: 73-87 crossmember bolt in?
Thank you Dwcsr-I just cant get myself to pay $1400 or so for a s10 frame kit---Im against clips of frame cutting and grafting due to some Ive seen--this seems the safest and easiest.Agreed the cost will escalate with a rebuild but still much cheaper than most. Again thank you.
