Looked at an interesting truck tonite
Went and looked at a C/30 tonite that is for sale. The owner told me on the phone that it was originally bought from GM by the Coca Cola Company and use to be the correct red before he painted it blue.
Sure enough it was even listed on its spid label, not sure what the 3 different codes were for other than 1 being special paint maybe?

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
I don't know how much the guy is asking, and I don't know what kind of shape the truck is in, but if the SPID is for real, that is one rare truck, I would say - and pretty cool.

Pretty cool! I like the mirrors on the top one. Does a board vendor sell those and what would they be listed as?

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
Randy, it drove real nice, he pulled a heavy built dovetail trailer and 6,000 pound case tractor behind it for the last 7 years.
Shawn, its a great truck for the price, would probably make the trip back to your place. Might cost as much in gas as the price of the truck tho! Dan, I'm sure the spid is real, dont know if it makes it rare but definetly cool

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
I found it Rob.
It doesn't seem to be a bad truck for the price.

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
GM called them west coast Jr mirrors, those ones would be stainless. Those are period correct on there, and may actually be dealer parts since the truck came originally with below eyeline mirrors.

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
It`s funny,it has a`72 VIN,a`69 grille,and`70-up clearance lights. What`s up with the green mirror base trim?Did it have disc brakes?I know it`s been gone over before...mirrors,no bowtie on hood, black steering wheel/dash pad, lighter was added...but,I wonder what year it is.

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
I'm thinkin that style of rear view mirror with the raised/ stamped mounting pad is 70-71 only. 69 didn't have it.

Buy that thing, and then make your way to the meet! From the sound of it, it looks like it will be a miniature Midwest Board Meet...

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
As far as the year of the truck;
The VIN says 72 The clearance lights are 71 and up (including 72 obviously) 69 & 70 were the hockey pucks The door panels are 72 only the column matches the int listed on the spid The rear view mirror could have been added when a previouse owner got sick of glueing the stock one back to the glass over and over. This would also explain the turquoise cover on the mirror mount. Raised pad on the sheet metal was 71 only. 67 -69 it was flat, then in 72, it was flat again. The hump was a one year deal. It was obviously redone at one point, the older grill installed with the 71/72 hood and even the older bumper. I'm willing to bet a kick in the nads that it is a 72. Quote:
my one ton came optioned with one kind of mirror, listed on the SPID, and on the build sheet, yet, had another style installed at the factory, aindicated by the original paint and lack of other holes in the metal. Last edited by Longhorn Man; 04-13-2008 at 05:15 AM. |

Re: Looked at an interesting truck tonite
While we are on the mirror subject- what did '70 use, same as '69? And what about '68- same as '67?

Longhorn Man, The raised pad (hump) you are talking about, is that where the interior mirror mounts? I hadn't heard of this difference before and always like to learn new things about these trucks. Thanks, Mark
