230 ci question
Hello all. I've been a member here for a few months now and now have the money to start working on my truck. It's a '63 with a 230 inline. I recently found out that she is burning oil on a few cylinders and thought about rebuilding the motor. Well, i started looking around for a cheap motor or craigslist and found a guy locally that is selling a 195 hp 230 with electronic ignition and about 10,000 miles on it. Its and advanced auto crate motor. The motor was taken out of a 65 nova. will this motor bolt right in my truck? I tried to call advanced auto and they couldnt tell me because they dont sell a motor for a 63 chevy truck. thanks!

Re: 230 ci question
I believe it will with no problems. I didn't know Advance sold inline 6s. If it were me I'd try to get some feed back on their crate motors. You might be better off having yours rebuilt. Just a thought.

The 250 will drop right in. You might have to swap accessory brackets around. I don't know about the Advance engines either.

Re: 230 ci question
I was once told the truck 6's have a different oil pan than the cars. The truck's are slimmer up front to clear the suspension cross member, and deeper in the back.
I don't know if it is true. But at worst it only means you have to swap the oil pan you already have. Other than that, engien mounts are tranny mounts are the same. As others have already said, accessory mounts may be different, but then you already have a set of those too. |

Re: 230 ci question
that is true. thanks everyone for the info. i called a few places, like chevrolet, and verified that it would bolt right in. they also told me about my oil pan and dipstick. i wasnt able to find any feedback on advance auto crate motors, so i called adcance auto...of course they said that they sell great reman motors. lets hope they do!
