52 GMC engine swap - 250 cid

First post, greetings!

How do I install a 250 engine from a 1967 GMC into a 1952 GMC? The '52 has a 3-speed manual transmission and a 216 engine. I'm no mechanic but I should be able to handle this. I suppose the engine mounts will need moving, but what else am I up against?







The '67 GMC was in an accident, so it's time is over. Effort is better spent on the '52.

1st off you plan on keeping the rest of the drive train stock. now if im not mistaking i believe the 67 has the bellhousing with the mounts, in which you will need and i think your stock trans will bolt to it(dont qoute tho). as for motor mounts you need to either get a universal tube crossmember or maybe something from a 67-72 4x4 and make it work. now that you are working on a GMC,the engine is alittle longer then a chevy,you mite be ok but if not you will to adapt a narrower radiator. hope this helps ya

Pugs said pretty much what I was going to. If the bell housing that is in the 67 is the one that bolts to the crossmember (the one the trans is resting on) and the collar on the front of the trans fits the hole in the bell housing you can bolt it in and then level up the engine and build the mounts.
In another thread some of the guys showed front mounts they built that used a biscuit type mount and were a lot cleaner then trying to build mounts to fit the stock 71 rubber mounts.
I have a 71 250 in the 48 and used the stock mounts in front and it is ugly. I had originally intended to use the engine for a few weeks until I built my 396 and never got he 396 built but put 100,000 on the 250 over 15 years. I have a full syncro 3 speed with a Nova style rear end.

The drive train will be stock at this point, I just want the truck to move. I'll cross my fingers and hope the bellhousing matches up. The tranny in the the '67 looks to me like a TH350, so maybe the bellhousing has been changed? Uh oh!

Motormounts are ordered and on their way from Stovebolt, those look slick.

100,000 miles on the 250 hey? Never had an inline 6 before, but this 250 has impressed me the last two years. So even though it burns a bit of oil, it just makes sense.

oh well you didnt mention the trans inthe 67 was an automatic, if thats the case you will need to find the right bellhousing, clutch,pressure plate and tho out bearing

Oh, I have the stock 216, won't the bellhousing etc fit the 250?

nope the pattern is different, shouldnt be to hard finding a bell for the 250, i could go to a local boneyard and find a few
