i have a 86 crewcab single wheel, it has a 350 4barrel and a 4 speed. i need to get more mileage, ( who doesn't ) would a 250 6 cyl. help any ? or is that a stupid idea, i don't haul or pull anything, just drive it around about once a week.

Re: gas mileage

Dude...86 crewcab....You'll be driving around with your foot on the floor getting it up to speed with a 250. I'm not sure you'll see any gain.

I'd change tranny's to a 5-speed before I put in a 6-cylinder. I'd love to see a picture of that truck. I've been driving crew-cabs since '01 and love them. You hardly ever see a 73-87 crew cab any more.

Re: gas mileage

A friend of mine got this thing to help him get better gas mileage. It improved his gas mileage by about 10 miles a gallon and he was haulin a trailer. I'm ordering one myself. Go to www.poweryourcaronwater.com

Re: gas mileage

My 1991 CC gets 17 highway @ 65 and 13 city. It is a 350TBI with 4L80E trans.

Swapping to a 5 speed with OD would help.

Damn, thats downright respectable!

Hopefully my '87 can get close to that once I get rid of the 4.10's.
It's a T400 so that will drag it down some. But I have 700r4 out of an '88 'Burb that I would like to swap over. Just not sure if the cost of a new driveline (plus other hidden expenses) will be worth it.
I am not going to use this truck to "work" so I am on the fence.
