700r swap, slight problem...

I am in the process of buttoning up my 700r swap in my 74 2wd and have encountered a slight problem. The weight on the trans end of the driveshaft hits the mount for the torque arm (which the truck obviously doesn't use). Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Does the weight come off?
Should I carefully cut the mount off?
Or do I need to swap yokes?

i need to do this swap,,, non of my shafts look like that,,,i'd look for a used yoke if it doesn't fit the 700...please post everything you can on this swap

it fits into the trans, just not all the way because of the weight hitting the trans

swap is very easy, just bolts right in. I did have to drill holes for the crossmember tho. From what I gather, some do and some don't. You will need a different dipstick, a tv cable, a mechanical speedo adapter if you purchase a 700 with electronic speedo sensor, and a relay kit for the torque converter lockup. Also, I would install the constant pressure kit from TCI if you can afford it, just for peace of mind.

you can just find a driveshaft from a 86-87, i have a 86 and mine does not have that big drum on the end or swap tail housings

I would just get a different yoke

One from a TH350 trans will work also

I have a different yoke from an old project, but the u-joint holes are larger than the truck d-shaft holes. Do they make u-joints with the smaller size on one end and larger on the other?

I was able to get the weight off...it seems to be a balancer because it was rubber mounted to the yoke. I can now get the d-shaft installed, but there is still a lip on the yoke that is limiting the inward movement of the d-shaft. There is probably a little more than 1/4" of inward play with the suspension under full weight, which I'm thinking is not enough.

They do make adapter U-joints

Just measure the two & see if your parts store has one

That's a yoke out of a van, right? I ask because I see that damper on the M vans but did not have one on my 1990 FST. Both were 4.3 auto.

Bad news fellas. I got the weight/dampener off and the dshaft is still too long. Also tried a different yoke to no avail. So looks like I'm going to have to get the driveshaft cut. Oh well, nothin's as simple as you hope, right?
