sqeaky bushings
What is the best way to stop sqeaky leaf spring bushings? Is there any chemical/spray/lube to quiet them down?

Jeff,
I'm guessing you are talking about urethane bushings, right? If so, use some silicone grease on them. This will stop the squeaks and last for a fairly long time.

I am ashamed to admit it, but the squeaks are coming from my 99 (gulp) Ranger 2WD. It started happening about 2-3 weeks ago..figured it was the shocks (70,000 miles) so I replaced all four...still squeaks!!!

Hmmm.... I could say something, but I won't.
Well, yes I will. What in the world are you doing driving a Ford? : I bet Yeller won't love you anymore. Don't know jack about ferds. Have you tried spraying anything in there to see if it helps? These being rubber, I don't know.

In order to stop the squeaks on the Rang** I would stuff a rag in the gas tank, fire up your Oxy Acetylene torch, light the rag and run away. Guaranteed not to squeak any more and taking care of a pesky pest problem at the same time.

fords
hey guys i have a 1999 Ford ranger too and its a great truck. She has 58K on it and all ive ever had to do on it was change the oil and filter and a couple of sets of brake pads, and like all my trucks it gets the hell beat out of it regularly. Anywho i have the same problem with the front rubber bushings and ive been told if i spray them with WD40 or silicone spray it will help the noise and not hurt the bushings . if you hear anything else let me know

Personally I'd use graphite empregnated lithium grease spray and hit all bushings heavily. :read:

5/8...
thanks for telling me about that web site!! Although no one could help with the squeaky bushing problem I got help with my "phantom wiper" question. Alot of Rangers have bad multi-function switches and they cause the wipers to go on by themselves every now and again. I went to the dealer and purchased a new switch and put it in...problem solved!!!! As far as the bushings go...I washed the truck yesterday (first time in a few months) and they no longer squeak..woo hoo! -Jeff |

Thanks for caring Eddie, that makes me feel pretty good!
Actually, since I had the firewall/cargo light shaved and smoothed I have not touched the truck. It is getting cold out and I have no heater in the garage. Usually during winter I save my arse off and buy lots of stuff...that was when spring gets here I have lots to do! This winter I am going to get all my Ultra Light gauges, Painless wiring kit, cab/body mount set, build MY console, and get some of the last remaining pieces to get the truck running. On top of all that I am curently trying to finish off my basement before X-mas, get the yard in shape (raking, fertilizing, etc...), and saving $$ for my wedding which is supposed to be next fall! Needless to say...I have alot goin on! -Jeff |
