Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Numbers wise, the big back windows are way more rare. Personally, I've got a small back window and it was my first car so I love that style more personally.

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Big back window is less common, but the small window is way cooler.
Every truck since 1968 has had BBW, I like to be different. I have 2 BBW cabs but am looking for the right small window.

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
small window cabs are literally cooler in the sun... but the do have a hell of a blind spot over your left shoulder when backing out to the left.

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Love my big back glass. Add a layer of tint and you'll stay cool and you can ride incognito as well all while retaining precious visibility. I've got mine tinted, but not dark enough that you can't see in easily enough. I do like dark tint and it's legal for the back glass of a truck in my state (plus many others) but I prefer light tint on classic trucks. She had limo tint on her when I bought her but I did not care for it. My '97 Silverado however is as black as the paint job. Combine that with the tint I sprayed on the tail lights and backup light lenses and you have to just kinda aim it when backing up after dark. I mastered that technique in the eighties though I removed the back up lights from my '63 because I did not like the way they looked so I pretty well am in the same boat with it as well. Anyhow, I love big back window 60-66 trucks. To me they just look sportier and dare I say classier. The small back glass has more of a work truck look. That's not to say there aren't some awesome trucks out there with small back windows too. I would just always prefer to build a big windowed truck.

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Not only because mine is a SBW...but I think the smaller window is more classic looking....like an old truck should look like.
Then again, someone gave me this truck for free...and it could of so happened that it could of came with a BBW...so mabey I am being partial. - - I think it's cool with a SBW and LWB !! - -

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Panororamic rear glass gives a more sleek look for a trimmed out custom. It gives that car-like touch. The small glass is more trucky and old timey. It all depends on the truck and the desired look.I`d say the Panoramic is more collectible and does add value of some sort.
Personally,I`m a Small Glass/Stepside Panoramic/Fleetside kinda guy. But,I`ll take the alternates to be different, too.I`d like to do a fancy Stepside and a stripped Fleetside, too.

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Using Chiefs as an example it looks like they had stamped the cab for a large window and well just ran out of glass so they went small.
For the record I have a small window too, but would rather have a large window. Will I ever change it? Don't know for sure. |

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
I myself agree the small back window looks more like a truck window.
The large is kinda like a station wagon window. Just kidding, so no hate mail..

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
I have to agree with the masses, stepside = small, fleet = big.
Only thing going against the small window appearance wise is the large inset for the large window. Would be cool to make that inset flush... would be one of those details the average joe would miss. |

Re: Small back glass or Big back glass?
Just curious since we are on the big v/s small subject. It was always my understanding that they offered the small window for people who planned to use the truck for more of a dedicated work truck. That way if you threw a piece of wood into the bed and it hit the back of the cab or if a load shifted you were much less likely to break the glass. The big glass improved visibility and looked more stylish but carried a bigger risk of being broken. Since most people back in the fifties and sixties bought trucks to use like trucks and not just transportation that is capable of occasionally hauling something or towing a trailer the small back window was the more popular choice. Well that and it was cheaper. Is that what you guys have heard as well?
