Air Tank Options
Well, I'm really frustrated with my current aluminum air tank (leaks, repairs, etc.). I've been trying to determine if there are other options and was looking at some of my spare 15-pound nitrous tanks from an old race car project and was wondering if anyone else has used a nitrous bottle for an air tank (valve with no pick up, etc.)? Higher PSI rating, etc. I was considering this since I also have a dual nitrous tank mount sitting on my shelves and I could use one tank for the nitrous system and one for the air suspension.

just buy a steel hoosier or fireston tank and you should be good. just stay away from the "china" tanks

sorry shane. i was not trying to advertise. just making the point that buying local may save one money over buying off someone over the internet because of shipping.
and i have found that the local rig places are reasonable when buying ptc fittings, so i would imagine they would be reasonable on tanks as well |

Check in the parts for sale area, spraybomb had one for sale for cheap, and also SD is a great place to buy.

I wouldn't you mention big trucks and the price goes up from there..
You can buy three at suicidedoors for the price of one for a big truck but the truck shop one will be durable. |

i had a NOS bottle i sanded down and polished, never used it but sold it to a friend who used it for and air tank and he still uses it to this day..
so yes they are usable

The only issue I see with it would be having only one inlet/outlet port. You would almost have to run another small tank as a junction of sorts. Something the compressors can feed into, and the valves can feed from, and just run one large hose to the nitrous bottle. If it's a look you want, I say go for it. Otherwise, I recently installed a tank that I believe came from AVS, and I was actually impressed with the quality. It seemed a lot thicker and sturdier than most tanks I have seen.
Also most truck shops sell tanks that are kind of an odd size for most of our trucks. They also commonly use a strap mounting style, that has no legs, which isn't something most people are familiar with.

That's an interesting idea using nitrogen, especially since the tanks are rated for 2000 psi, or more. Will the solenoid/valve assemblies be able to handle the added pressure?

I have actually built some steel air tanks for my truck. Its 6X6 square material. I built 2 of them for my truck and they total about 9.5 Gallons of air. Enough for me. I didnt have alot of room and the hoosier 5 gallons were just a little too big. I dont have too many pics but i found a couple.

Just gotta remember to check the tank now and then depending on how switch happy you are. Man now you got me thinking of when I go air bags to possibly have a small bottle as a backup source for my compressor. CO2 is non flamable as well.

Yeah that would be a good idea, and dont forget to put like a quick release so you can hook up to an air tank if need be

I've used scuba tanks, nitrogen setups, and N2O bottle setups. I also used alot of USA made aluminum tanks with no problems. I stock quite a few of them and have installed and shipped about a hundred w/no problems.
