1960 Fleetside bed rails?
Hi all, I thought I read someplace that the bed rails mounting holes are different in some years.. like 60-62 and 63-66?? I dont remember if the holes that mount it to the frame are different or if the holes for the wood to mount to are different?? I had a mishap to one of them on the 60 I am building and it bent pretty bad.. Figured it might be easier to find one than heat this up and try and salvage it. Could someone let me know asap so I can try and find one, everything is sitting in the paint booth except this rail
Thanks Skez |

as far a i know it is just the holes you use to mount the bed to the frame, but those go through the wood too.......

Re: 1960 Fleetside bed rails?
Ya know what.. being new to these trucks I wasnt even aware.. When I was pulling it apart I wondered why they didnt just bolt through the wood/rail into the frame.. The rails I have are not from a 60 then.. The wood was bolted to the rails only and the rails were bolted to the frame separately also.. This changes things a bit as it looks like I am in need of 3 rails from a 60... Hours of looking through the assembly books and I didnt even notice.
Thanks Skez |

Re: 1960 Fleetside bed rails?
The only place that the wood is bolted to the frame is at the mounting points to the frame. Those bolts go thru the wood, all the way thru to the bracket on the frame. Just as Joe said. As far as I know the cross sills are all the same from '66 to '66. They have holes for both the '60-'62 mounting and the '63-'66 mounting. I have a bunch of them here if you want to come look and see if they are what you need.

Re: 1960 Fleetside bed rails?
hey Captain, i found out the hard way that they aren't the same. i got a '60-'62 bed and none (not even the rear one) of the cross sills matched up to my '63 frame. they did have multiple holes, but the frame mounts fell between the holes. Got a '64 bed and it bolted up as it should
i had pics on here but it has been too long, guess they fell into oblivion

Re: 1960 Fleetside bed rails?
Yeah I knew the rear sill was different. but I guess I just assumed since there are two sets of holes in each one that they must work for both '60-'62 and '63-'66. Hmmm learned something new today. I would think I would have some of the early ones here somewhere.

I shot ya a PM Capt, I figure it wouldnt hurt to take a look. Even if I had to move a plate/drill some holes we are talkin about something that isnt often seen. Thanks for the help guys.. only thing besides work that keeps me motivated in the colder months is my projects, otherwise I would sleep the winter away.
