motor mount question
which should i use? does it matter. i have a 283(i think)
these are in my 64 these were in a 79 that i took the front end off of and what about that crossmember in the 1st photo will any tranny work with that? |

The motor mounts would be whichever you prefer to use as either will work fine. The rear crossmember is for a stock style manual tranny/bellhousing. If you go with an auto it will need to be removed.

Use the stock mounts. It is easier. YOu will have to trim the frame back for the later ones to work.

The tranny crossmember is factory for an SM420, granny low, 4-speed and it will not work with an automatic transmission. The motor perches from the '64 are a direct bolt-in.

Putting the bolts up thru the old style perches can really be a pain. You may have to have someone move the engine up and down and muscle it around while you are underneath the truck. I have a set of the newer style mounts and will probably use them when I re-do my 'burb engine.

I tried using the newer style mounts and found out that the newer frames are about 3/4 of an inch taller IIRC.....so I say go with the ones from the '64.
that trans cross member will need to come out I believe, you will either need to remove the rivets to get the whole thing out, or use a torch and cut the member out...
