Third member
I did a few searches on this forum trying to see how to gear my 62 a little taller for the freeway and wanted see if anyone could backup my info i gathered before i head to the wrecking yard on my hunt. The third member is interchangeable from 55- 62 truck only correct? And the only way i am going to find a factory unit with higher gears than my 4.11s is to try and look for a truck that came with automatic? Hopefully some one here can clarify this for me. I know there are other options as far as later model rearends i just would like to keep the truck stock as far as drivetrain goes ...........for now! Thanks for anyones help

Re: Third member
The other option would be a set of aftermarket gears.....but they are rather spendy.
http://www.ringpinion.com/PartsList....b-Differential I know you don't want to, but it would be cheaper to convert to a 12 bolt.

Re: Third member
well i have a 62 rear end that came from a 62 with a glide that you can have. not sure about the difference in gears between the auto and standard trucks though.

Re: Third member
I think the years are 55-64. A common gear for those years in two wheel drive is 3.90 gears. I picked up a third member at the local swap meet (Canby, OR) for $40.00. It was a 3.90 gear and works good.

Re: Third member
Thanks for all your help i am going to the wrecking yard soon. I found one wrecker that had a few third members not sure on the gears and he wanted $225 so i will explore my options and see what makes the most sense and is the easiest on the wallet.
