Power steering box
I Plan on converting to P/S. A guy I bought some parts for about a year ago thew in this box and pump for nothing. My question is, Is there a way I can make sure it will fit before I start to tear down? ie: cast #, Fitting type etc... It has a cast # 7802644 Are 4x4 and 2wd boxes the same?
Thanks

Re: Power steering box
2wd and 4wd are different in the way the pitman arm points. I don't believe they can be swapped from one to the other. As long is it is pre 1978 or so,the fittings will be standard, not metric. I have swapped a few boxes from early- mid 70's trucks onto 68-72 trucks with no problems. I also helped swap a 1984 box with metric fittings onto a 1968 that had a 1997 Vortec 350 engine swapped in with the 1997 serpentine front drive.

Re: Power steering box
How can you tell if it's "pre-1978"?

Re: Power steering box
What kind of fittings were used before and after 78? I am working on hydroboost setup on a 67.
