Wire harness on 66 Chevy

Ok so I'm looking at all the magazines for wire harness replacement and thinking how pricey is this stuff. I also noticed they do not sell any of the plugs (male & female) to remedy an old worn out broken connector in your truck.

So the question is why cannot I just replace each wire harness myself with the appropriate gauge wire and new fittings per my wiring diagram? Has anyone done this? Where did you find the fittings?

With that said, I bet the savings would be at least 80% of what they are selling replacement wire harnesses from the classic restoration places.

I just went with a 21 circuit EZ Wiring kit. For $185 it's a pretty good deal and you just have to do the ends yourself. You should be able to get the right connectors from LMC and/or NAPA.

Old custom classic trucks have soul. Their dashboards aren't plastic, and they've survived both the best and worst of what the 20th century had to offer. For the owners of these trucks, it's often the same story. Through both good and bad times they persevered, until one day they could turn the key and roll up in a customized truck everyone with good taste would admire.Custom Classic Trucks

You can get the correct connectors somewhere. My friend was a GM tech and said they are still available..........also saw this question in the electrical section a while ago. Unfortunately, I cant remember the name of the connector style or where to get them.

Re: Wire harness on 66 Chevy

I just seen the American Autowire kits, and they seem pretty complete. I just finished a "painless" kit on my wifes '57 wagon...and although the Painless kit is nice, I wish I would of know about the AA kits. they came complete with ALL the pigtails, instrument sockets, correct connectors, etc. for the '57.

The electrical systems on our trucks is as basic as they come.

All I did was pick up two 6 circuit mini fuse panels (one for B+ and the other for switched) and wired the under-dash strands of wire. I did purchase a new front engine harness though...just cause.

Cannot get much more simpler than our trucks..unless it's an old VW !!
