dash pad options

Like most people my dad pad is cracked. Right now my interior is red but I want to go black. I found new door panels local that are red for $50 but I figure I will just dye them black. For the dash pad what are my options though?

I see lmc sells a a pad cover for $100 that glues to your existing pad. Does that work well and still look good? Does anyone have pics of it installed? Or are there any other alternatives besides buying a new one?

Re: dash pad options

I've seen the dash caps, and they don't look original, but they still look pretty good. I've seen some that look awesome, and some that look terrible. I think it depends on the time spent to put it on correctly. I'm getting one for mine so I think they are ok.

Re: dash pad options

Every once in awhile you'll see some good original dash pads come up for sale in the parts board for cheap. I bought mine from here. I dyed it black and it came out nice.

Re: dash pad options

I recovered mine in vinyl. It takes a while and you have to be careful, but it turned out nice. You loose the place for speakers in the dash though.

Re: dash pad options

I used the same dash cover you saw in LMC for $100.

It looked pretty good for awhile but it would never sit exactly right in the corners and ended up flexing some and loosing shape. But it wasn't that bad, I just knew that it wasn't right and that bothers me.

I plan on just getting a brand new dash instead of re-bandaiding it again.

Re: dash pad options

Mine has like 2-3 cracks but is not horrible. What about cutting the cracks down then bondo them and use the dye with primer first? Just curious how that would work.

Think I am going to get a fabric cover from lmc then get a cover form cpt chaos. Just trying not to dump a ton of money.
