power steering question
A newbie again. I have searched all night - threads and google - and I haven't found any answers. I am in the middle of putting an 85 454 into my 68 chevy c10. Before this it was mostly stock (350 instead of the 327) and has the factory power steering. The power steering that I'm using came with the BB. My question is
It has the threaded pressure line (send i'm assuming) on the pump, then it has two push on hoses. My small block has the threaded and one push on. There was a line already pushed on (as seen in pic) but its way to long to go to the power steering box; it would reach all the way to the trany lines if needed. What line do I hook my box to and what do I do with the other post ![]()

Re: power steering question
Ok, does that Pump have a filler cap on the canister or is it a remote fill unit?
The only pumps I have seen with two return hoses are the ones with a Hydro boost on the brakes. did the truck you got the engine out of have one of those? It's not hard to take the canister off the pump and put one on that has one return line and a regular cap on it. I think that is what I would do. |

Re: power steering question
Its a remote fill. I know it came out of a 3/4 ton crew cab that got a cummis swap. I will as tomorrow about the booster.
Thinking about it though, the line thats on it is laying on the master like the line wanted to go that way. I was hoping to keep the remote fill. I think it cleans up the bay and is cleaner in general (plus its already on it) (full pic, sorry about the size) ![]() don't mind the motor mount, its only a temp ![]()

Re: power steering question
The remote fill should be ok but you will have to either plug the hose that went to the Hydro boost or swap out canisters. You could take the canister off an cut that tube off and weld up the hole and then put it back on the pump.

Re: power steering question
Looks like a Hydro boost set up.
I pulled my 454 out of an '85 1 ton stakebed truck. Only, the Hydro boost had been removed, they are expensive when they need to replace. I'm sure the line was just caped off. Then again, this was a yard truck, that wasn't driven on public streets. I would check if it is safe to do so.
