59 GMC Front Sway Bar
I tried to put on my front sway bar on my 59 GMC yesterday and I can't figure out how to mount the bar to the front cross-member. I have no flat spot on the cross-member except for real close to the center and then the sway bar is curved at that location. Anybody have any pics of how they have theirs mounted.

Re: 59 GMC Front Sway Bar
Did you check the manufacturers' website or contact their customer support?
If you don't get an answer there or here you might try www.oldgmctrucks.com or www.stovebolt.com

Re: 59 GMC Front Sway Bar
Looks to me like there should be a bracket to hold the half round bar clips that mounts on the crossmember at the plate with the two holes in it. Wouldn't be hard to fab one. Grabbing the bar in the center defeats it purpose, it need to be restrained as close to the ends before the bend as possible.

Re: 59 GMC Front Sway Bar
I can send you a picture of and original one to help you set up yours. It sets up backward of they way you have it. The ends with the holes go toward the front.

Re: 59 GMC Front Sway Bar
I have been going of the directions that came with it and also the ones that they told me to go to on their website. Any pictures or help would be great, I still am waiting to hear back from them on how it is suppose to bolt up. I also went back to their website and it says 59 GMC or Chevy Truck Front Sway Bar Kit, so they says it is suppose to just bolt right up.

Re: 59 GMC Front Sway Bar
You have it on right .. It looks like they expect you to fab up brackets for the front bushings.
Here is a stock one laid out from the driver view. The 2 end links mount to the frame. The other end mounts to the axle by an elongated lower shock mount. I much prefer the CCP sway bar for aftermarket if you can't get hold of an original. |
