66 p/s questions
A friend of mine has a 66 2wd that he wants to put power steering on, I was just wondering if anyone has done it before and what P/S gear was used?
Thanks, John

Re: 66 p/s questions
if you do a search you will find a bunch of info. Just yesterday there was a post on this.
But to answer your question: A 69-87 2wd 1/2 ton box will work , make sure you use the right yearhoses for the box and get a power steering kit addaptor. Oh and thanks for your service Devil Dog Semper Fi

Re: 66 p/s questions
You will also need a pump and the correct mounting brackets for the engine in the truck. It is best to get the pump that has the same type of port style as the steering box. Somewhere around 1981-82 GM changed to an O-ring style as opposed to a double flare style on the previous years

Re: 66 p/s questions
Also, when locating a pump and box, the earlier models had SAE hose fittings and somewhere in the eighties they change to metric. Make sure your pump and box are the same species or you will have trouble with the hose ends connecting properly.
I have used this complete set-up on a few 4-5-6 Chevy trucks: http://www.carsteering.com/addtocart.../82-80005.html |

Re: 66 p/s questions
If needed the hoses can be made to have any end on them but you would be better off for future replacement.
