Scored a 12 bolt on CL
Saw local Cl ad, dude parting out a 79 gmc.
went and looked, had a 12 bolt, dude wanted $50 if I took it out or $100 if he did, gave him a cnote and off I went with a 12 bolt. Not bad... Now I gotta make time to clean it up, put a new posi/gears and maybe some disk brakes! woohoo

Re: Scored a 12 bolt on CL
Congrats on the find pcmcobra. I was just as fortunate a few weeks ago. $50 also from a 79. What new components(posi/gears/brakes) are you looking at. I was looking at rebuilding the one I have.

Re: Scored a 12 bolt on CL
looking at eaton posi with 3.73 gears...not sure about brakes yet.
Need to find out what I want, mcgaughys 13" or another brand. For the $, the mcgaughys is nice, I plan on doing the front also, but not right now, dont have the $ for both.

Re: Scored a 12 bolt on CL
I was looking at the Detroit TruTrac. I don't know what gear I want yet. The 12 bolt has 3.73 gears in it. I'm going to see how it works first. What did you get the 6.0l out of? Is is still fuel injected? Do you run it with the stock ECM/TCM? Sorry for all the questions, just curious. My TBSS has a 6.0L.

Re: Scored a 12 bolt on CL
Nice find. Where are you guys looking to get gears and posis from? I put a stock 12 bolt in mine and would like to upgrade as well at some point.
My good buddy just picked up a 6.0 and 4L80 for his 66 we are building. I am around that setup everyday at work and it is a great combo. How do you like it in your truck? Tranny stock?

Re: Scored a 12 bolt on CL
ya, the 4l803 tranny I have is stock, w/ stock converter.
Wish I had the $ to upgrade everything at once, but I don't. I have thought about a new converter, but I really want to get this rearend done first. The power the 6.0 has is nice, tranny shifts smooth, no problems. Definitely recommend doing the swap if anyone is thinking about it.
