Harley guys...what's this bike worth?
A guy wants to trade this bike for my '87 silverado. He's advertising his at $6500 and I have mine at $4900. He put a new RevTech 100" motor in, just had a new inner primary installed. The paint is a home job and the bike has a bunch of miles. By the way if I got it I would promptly paint it black and change the fenders/seat. I'm fairly confident I could make the bike look alot better...
http://easttexas.craigslist.org/mcy/1170267619.html That's all I know about the bike, what are your opinions? Should I throw in any cash, what's it worth?

Guy wants to trade a Harley for my '87 swb...
If any of you Harley guys are so inclined, please drop by this thread and let me know what you think:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...76#post3328676 It's an '88 FSXTC with a bunch of miles, ugly paint and a new RevTech 100". What's it worth?

I guess there's two schools of thought on the engine, one negative because of what it is, the other positive because of what it is.
I'm sorta struggling with that, BUT...100hp has a much better ring than 50hp to me

well, I'm kinda on the down side of this. My wife had a good point, she said why bother if it's not the one you really want?

Re: Harley guys...what's this bike worth?
The engine alone sold new for close to 5 grand.
For what it is, along with the engine upgrade his price seems pretty fair. The pictures are so small I can't see much detail, but it looks like there is no turn signals. Plus the pipes are sure to be obnoxious, so that along with no signals = major ticket bait, at least in my area. Don't think that just because it's a bike, that the painting will be cheap! Unless you plan to do it, or you have a buddy that will hook you up. Since having all that tin preped and painted will cost quite a bit just for a basic black with no fancy stuff. A shop that does MC paint and custom work, to do that up in basic black and lets say some basic pinstripe could cost a few grand alone. I did some shopping around on this recently, and being that yours has a non factory paint job just adds another grand in the time it takes to strip it all off. At least this is what I was being told by two very reputable MC custom paint shops here in SoCal. If you can swing it, see if he is cool with taking it to a shop to get it checked out. If he has nothing to hide he should be cool with it, just as long as you guys agree on how to cover the shops cost in doing the check up. That's my .02 on this scoot deal.

Re: Harley guys...what's this bike worth?
Thanks for the input vectorit. I appreciate what you're saying about the paint, I would probably do it myself as I've been fairly handy with the paint gun lately. I also have a neighbor who does media/soda/sand blasting. Another route would be powdercoating.
On a side track...my buddy just built a custom bike and had his frame and tins powdercoated locally for a very reasonable price then just won a show with it a couple weeks ago. It was his first build, he called it "war bird" and it had this lettered on it along with a tasteful eagle and some other touches. He is a decorated Army major with several tours in Iraq/Afghanistan. It was pretty cool to see the old timers drooling over his first build and he deserved it. Yeah the little stuff on that bike would concern me, he's probably had it apart a couple times and likely there's some hacked wiring and worn stuff. If it was in my garage tonight I'd blow it apart and fix/change the stuff like I want it. So would this be a good bike to start with price aside?

Re: Harley guys...what's this bike worth?
you'd need to completely dismantle the bike to paint it//no smALL JOB//UNLESS youre doing yellow frame and black tins/i'd rather have a really nice 1200srortster at about the same price and less headaches---elecxtrics alignments etcseat fenders . i really dislike those bars and hate dragpipes
not my style of bike so i'm really not that objective

I would pass on that bike. I wish I could trade you something for your '87. I have too many now to buy more and not get rid of anything.

I am NOT a fan of the REVtech motors. They are made in Korea. I'd say it might be an even trade, but that bike has that "kit bike" look that just makes it pretty uncool to me.

Not a rev tech fan. Even with a stock HD motor I would say 5,000 in this market.
