Steering Column - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Greetings,

Having spent the day looking over our new ride, I found that the steering shaft, at the steering wheel has to be replaced.  Whoever installed the aftermarket steering wheel cross-threaded the retaining nut.  Me, I try to fix, but the shaft is already beyond help.  

So without spending $$$$ on a new column, what will fit?  This is a 3-on-the-tree.

The shaft from any 67-72 three on the tree truck should fit. I just changed the one in my '71 4x4 for the same reason. You don't have to remove the whole column but it has to come out from the bottom. I was able to get mine out without dropping the steering box. You may not be that lucky with a 2 wheel drive truck.

Have a old column laying out in the garage if ya want it? Was in my truck before I found a tilt. LMK?

GMC= Got More Class! 1970 GMC LWB, Fleetside, 350/4spd, Flowmaster "40's", 2002 GMC 16" Rallies, cowl hood,and added a bunch of options that weren't there when I started.
